Ohio Gov. John Kasich insisted Monday that he is "seriously considering" running for president, but first has to answer one question: "Can I win?"
That's what he told the Columbus Dispatch in an interview Monday night after speaking to the Detroit Economic Club in Michigan.
"I've been serious about this all along, you're just catching on," he said.
The comments were the clearest signal yet from the Republican that he could make a play at the White House, but he admitted that he hasn't yet decided "if it's right" to run for president.
"The most important [question] is can I win? Is it a winnable situation?" Kasich said.
The Ohio governor still lags far behind the rest of the potential Republican presidential pack in terms of preparation he's done few of the early-state visits and little of the donor massaging that's characteristic of presidential hopefuls. But he has spent part of the year barnstorming the country trying to get enough states on board to ratify a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution, and will visit early primary states of South Carolina and New Hampshire to test the waters later this week.

I believe that a lot of this is posturing to see how much cash they can extort that eventually ends up in their off shore accounts. JMHO!
That could be a possibility, but it’s kind of annoying me seeing just about everyone in the GOP thinks they are going to run for president.
I kinda get the feeling the party wants to dilute the primary as much as possible to help Jeb win the nomination, for the only possible reason that I can think of, which is to guarantee Hillary wins the general. I mean you can count the people competing for the democrat nomination on two fingers, Hillary and her image.
The GOP, overall, is incredibly stupid.
Actually, I think this is good. Romney sucked all the air out of the room with his huge bags of money last time and, of course, the virtual certainty from the very start that the GOP-e was going to pick him as the candidate (and make him recipient of even more money). On top of that, many of the more conservative candidates were not only unknowns, they were a little on the flaky side.
We have a whole bunch of good people this time, some better than others, but all with relevant experience, accomplishments, and even - gasp! - ideas. With such a big crowd, I think it will actually be easier to sort out the one who’s the best because there will actually be enough choices not to have to settle for the just anybody.
I think the candidates who can’t cut it will be out very quickly, simply because it’s too expensive to continue without support. But they will have gotten public exposure, and maybe we’ll be able to get some fresh faces in government if the new GOP president draws from this crowd.
Please don’t.
Prediction: The Golf Pants Establishment GOP ‘leadership’ is, at this very moment, working TRIPLE OVERTIME trying to get Kasich to run so that their long term goal can be achieved...
A Bush-Kasich ticket.
Because what the country needs is a nice, moderate, bipartisan Republican that can reach across the aisle for pressing issues like Amnesty, instituting Common Core, doubling the budget of the Department of Education, slightly tweaking Barrycare (but leaving it in place), ‘reforming’ the tax code by changing the punctuation on 2 or 3 lines of the tax code, and increasing Ethanol subsidies.
Just my 2 cents...
I gauge my thoughts on candidates with the Weiner Standard.
Anthony, after having been disgraced as a Congressman (apparently with Huma now after hearing she is 24/7 with Hilldog on the road) actually got me thinking WTF?
It seems he had about $4.5 mil of leftover campaign funds he either had to give away to some other party cause or USE. Guess what he did. Me? In that position, I’d be thinking about a salary for personal consulting and campaigning, living expenses (think NY condo, other ‘expenses’) and all the friends that I could get to consult with on my ‘campaign’ for the Mayor of New York City. I just wonder exactly he has now left out of that $4.5 million.
So. Fool some people, get them to donate and do what you will. All you have to do is campaign a while and then drop off like that effer Senator/actor from Tennessee.
We have three available, two are good, the other is establishment. Let’s go with that and put the money where it counts (at least with the two good ones - the other can go to hell).
You’re probably right. Jeb shines when the rest of the light of good is split among many. He will never get my vote.
I know.
The media, including Fox (though not everyone there) keeps lining up behind one candidate or another hoping for a beltway boy or at least someone “reasonable”.
While Cruz just keeps cruzing along, taking on all comers, knocking the fastballs out of the park.
He’s the man.
When I read that Kasich was all in on Obamacare, I eliminated him even as a VP possibilty.
I got so mad last night at Hume and those other asswipes on Fox last night. Not a mention of Cruz and a whole lot of establishment crap and subtle maneuvering towards the party proper. I’ve pretty much given up on Fox as a legitimate standard bearer of my ideals.
Yep, I’m a Cruz guy. I’m ok with Walker, but I’m still iffy on immigration with him. However, not so serious that I can’t vote for him.
If it was a Cruz/ Walker ticket, or maybe even Walker/ Cruz, I’d vote for it, but obviously I would prefer Cruz at the top.
Everyone else... don’t care. I don’t even think I’d bother leaving my house on election day.
Oh and that senator actor from Tenn... Fred Thompson, what a wet firecracker he was lol.
OTOH, Corbett could campaign on the slogan "At least, I resisted ObamaCare."
Thompson...yeah....I’m thinking his half-age hot wife, Viagra and the cost to keep her are what ruled that roost, myself.
Noooooo!
:Ive pretty much given up on Fox as a legitimate standard bearer of my ideals.”
Same here. The day the Five came out against Cruz, fnc has been watched very little by this former viewer.
They are all in it for their feather beds, the notoriety and their careers. They really don’t give a crap about you and me except to the extent they can fool you into believing they are on your side and worthy of viewership.
I can agree there are some there that do have some semblance of conformity with my beliefs. However, it is sparse and all to infrequent in my opinion.
When you have lost the daily grind to those twits on at noon and the Five at 5, you’ve lost the narrative.
Hair, legs, and more legs and more hair. Anything otherwise isn’t in my daily realm of viewing, and I’m not gonna DVR somebody who just echoes my own personal thoughts, really.
I get better informed diversity here.
In a way this may help Cruz if he is taking votes from Walker and Bush and those who vote party and really don’t give a crap about the country. I could live with Walker, but Kasich—pass. The media seems hell bent on taking out Paul and he seems to be helping them. Cruz only conservative opposition maybe the Rube.
I did notice though that Hume didn’t jump on the Rubio bandwagon, at least in the portions I caught.
He seemed more interested in pointing out the obstacles that Rubio was going to face...they weren’t major points but he was countering some of the cheerleading.
Maybe I was just looking for bright spots but I thought maybe he had at least heard from someone in touch with us outlaws that we aren’t boarding the Rubio prima donna express.
