Mystery of the 'alien' signals solved: Baffled astronomers trace source of noise to the observatory's kitchen MICROWAVE
Strange signals, known as perytons, originated near to the planet Scientists could not explain where they were coming from for decades They replicated signal by opening microwave door while still running
For years, scientists have been trying to uncover the source of mysterious radio signals being picked up in Australia.
Theories have ranged from evaporating black holes to extraterrestrial communication and mergers of neutron stars.
Now researchers at the Parkes Observatory claim they have finally found the source of these 'alien' signals - in their kitchen microwave.
Scientists knew the strange signals, known as perytons, originated somewhere near to the planet, but they had no idea just how close.
In fact, the microwave was next door in the staff kitchen and visitors centre at the observatory.

I, for one, welcome our new Overlords.
how many grants did they get out of this “mistake”? Can scientists be this dumb?
Reminds me of the global warming scammers getting Federale Grants
Apparently even aliens are up for a quick snack now and again.
[FLASH]
The readings you were getting were nothing more than the radiation from a common microwave oven, refracted through marsh gas.
“We get these alien signals every time you make popcorn.”
“I declare it settled science that alien beings thrive on Jiffy Pop.”
You know, you really would think that these scientists would have someone manning these microwaves while they make their readings. Peryton manning, if you will.
LOL
Perhaps this microwave is also the source of Al Gore’s knowledge of Man-made global warming?
you can’t make this stuff up ...
It was either that or the electric can opener.
(Big Bang Theory fans will get that)
First thing I thought of.
Occam’s Razor strikes again.
Maybe the asphalt and AC and ... AND the microwave inside the airport are causing temperature increases at climate temp stations......
The Science is settled, the aliens are out there!!!!
Complete with microwaveable recipes.
Another device that can be the source of RF..cheap LED lightbulbs. Feit bulbs from Costco specifically. States as much on the label in tiny print.
Yes, scientists can be that dumb. They have no more superpowers than the average person, outside their narrow field of training and experience.
This would suggest isolating all microwave devices in appropriate “rooms” anywhere where space signals are monitored, but I wonder how many will fail to get the message.
I have an LED light bulb that I got to try in my track lights. Can’t listen to AM radio anywhere in the house when the lights are on.
ET prefers to communicate with us via the $95 microwave instead of the $69,000,000 high tech telescope. We’d still better listen to what they’re telling us, however!
