One hundred-fifty years after Appomattox, many Southerners still wont give up.
One hundred fifty years ago, on April 9th, 1865, Gen. Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House and the Union triumphed in the Civil War. Yet the passage of a century and a half has not dimmed the passion for the Confederacy among many Americans. Just three weeks ago, the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) appeared before the Supreme Court arguing for the right to put a Confederate flag on vanity license plates in Texas. Just why would someone in 2015 want a Confederate flag on their license plate? The answer is likely not a desire to overtly display ones genealogical research skills; nor can it be simplistically understood solely as an exhibition of racism, although the power of the Confederate flag to convey white supremacist beliefs cannot be discounted.
Rather, displaying the Confederate flag in 2015 is an indicator of a complex and reactionary politics that is very much alive in America today. It is a politics that harks back to the Souths proud stand in the Civil War as a way of rallying opinion against the federal governmentand against the countrys changing demographic, economic, and moral character, of which Washington is often seen as the malign author. Todays understanding of the Confederacy by its supporters is thus neither nostalgia, nor mere heritage; rather Confederate sympathy in 2015 is a well-funded and active political movement (which, in turn, supports a lucrative Confederate memorabilia industry).

Okay. Still nothing to do with Lincoln.
So you don't think there would have been any legislation passed to deal with freed blacks if federal troops were not in the south?
How would blacks have been given the right to vote in southern states?
How was this accomplished? Did federal troops force votes from the legislatures? Did federal troops go into the voting booths with the citizens?
I’d be careful commenting to someone who understands that good fiction is a reflection of reality. Go away.
We all have our sources. Some get better information than others.
Your smug ignorance is showing.
You are unfamiliar with Abraham Lincoln's presidency? Then you are ill suited to engage in a discussion on this topic.
"Holding the Citizenry hostage to the Legislators of the Southern States". Damned if I know what you mean by this phrase.
It means that if you want the Federal troops to stop harassing your citizens, you'll vote the way you are told. Again, your intellectual prowess doesn't seem up to the task of a a discussion on this topic.
While Jimmy Carter was your typical inept Democrat president, if we end up in nuclear war with Iran, I would put more blame on Obama, the spineless congressmen like McConnell who refuse to oppose him, the media for lying for him, and the people that voted for him. There is no doubt Obama fights for the Muslims and gives them everything they want.
And the fact that Jimmy Carter virtually singlehandedly turned what used to be a close ally into one of our worst enemies does not intrude upon your consciousness. Obama couldn't be screwing up Iran, had Jimmy Carter not made it possible for him to do so.
Well, regardless of how good or bad it was, Lincoln didn't write it and his Vice President vetoed it. So there was questionable legislation passed by the congress...what else is new since 1868. The amendment was an answer to the situation of freed blacks in states that were hostile to them.
It is irrelevant that Lincoln didn't write it. No doubt he would have done a far better job than John Bingham et al, but the fact remains is that he put the writers into a position whereby they had the power to force this piece of garbage down other throats in a deliberate violation of the spirit, if not the letter of the constitutional amendment process.
It is safe to say, that without coercion provided by Lincoln, the drafters of the 14th amendment wouldn't have gotten it added to the US Constitution.
So far you have given me no example of anything Lincoln did to create Fedzilla.
And this is where I wonder what is the point in attempting a discussion with you. You just don't seem to have the necessary understanding of history to contribute anything useful.
Your only example is the 14th amendment which Lincoln had nothing to do with.
And another example of just how "out there" you are from my perspective. You really don't need to be sitting at the adult table regarding this topic.
I think i’ll give it a miss.
Notice how insulting they get when they have nothing to say?
You made a simple claim, I'm asking for simple proof. What was the groundwork Lincoln laid for Fedzilla?
It means that if you want the Federal troops to stop harassing your citizens, you'll vote the way you are told. Again, your intellectual prowess doesn't seem up to the task of a a discussion on this topic.
So they were harassing everyday voters? How did they know which ones supported the 14th amendment and which ones didn't?
And the fact that Jimmy Carter virtually singlehandedly turned what used to be a close ally into one of our worst enemies does not intrude upon your consciousness. Obama couldn't be screwing up Iran, had Jimmy Carter not made it possible for him to do so.
So the Muslims would never had turned against us if not for Jimmy Carter? I find that hard to believe and I despise Jimmy Carter. I think Iran would have eventually turned against us no matter what due to our closest ally in the region being Israel.
It is irrelevant that Lincoln didn't write it.
LOL!!
No doubt he would have done a far better job than John Bingham et al, but the fact remains is that he put the writers into a position whereby they had the power to force this piece of garbage down other throats in a deliberate violation of the spirit, if not the letter of the constitutional amendment process.
Wh..Wh..What?! lol
It is safe to say, that without coercion provided by Lincoln, the drafters of the 14th amendment wouldn't have gotten it added to the US Constitution.
Coercion provided by Lincoln? What coercion?
And this is where I wonder what is the point in attempting a discussion with you. You just don't seem to have the necessary understanding of history to contribute anything useful.
Just a simple explanation is all I am asking for. What was this "groundwork" for Fedzilla. When was this "groundwork" laid? I don't see any evidence of any groundwork. All you have cited is the 14th amendment which Lincoln didn't write and his Vice President vetoed, and was put into motion years after Lincoln's murder.
And another example of just how "out there" you are from my perspective. You really don't need to be sitting at the adult table regarding this topic.
I'm "out there" because I want an example of something, anything, Lincoln did to create Fedzilla?
No answer to that either?
Yeah, they make these hysterical claims then get butt-hurt when asked to explain themselves. lol
You really don't seem worth arguing with. You sound like the "Black Knight" protesting "Tis but a flesh wound."
Again, anyone who would ask such a question doesn't grasp enough of what happened to be able to provide any useful dialogue on the subject.
Sorry. You have identified yourself as a non serious person, and I just don't want to take the time to fool with you.
I'm not going to bother with people so far "out there" that they can't even agree on what are the objective facts.
That's my question to you. What happened? On what day? Or what week? Or even what year? When did Lincoln sit down and create Fedzilla, as you claim? What legislation did he write to do this?
There has to be some action somewhere that you can point to as the beginning of Fedzilla.
You have presented no facts. Your only claim is the 14th amendment, but Lincoln didn't write it, his Vice President vetoed it, and it was processed long after his murder. So tell me some of these relevant facts so I can look at them.
lol My taxes are too high, I think I'll blame Jimmy Carter, since he was so inept in everything else he did. Wait no, it was George Washington, when he took 10,000 federal troops to fight a few distillers in Pennsylvania, who also just wanted to be left lone. That's where Fedzilla started, that's the ticket.
I could point to all sorts of examples, but if you can't see them for yourself, it is a waste of my time. You either don't know the history, or don't consider the action to be an abuse which led to Fedzilla.
Either way, it isn't worth my time.
Don’t laugh - there are those who feeeeeeeeeel that the Whiskey Rebellion marked the beginning of the end. Looking at some around here I can just imagine.
Oh, I can point to a lot of examples that contributed to Fedzilla, just nothing by Lincoln. You claim it was all Lincoln. I would say When Wilson brought in the international bankers to throw the Federal Reserve System on us, that was the biggest jump-start to Fedzilla. Then there was FDR with his paying farmers not to work, stealing our gold, land grabs, progressive taxation, everything else he did. Then there was Lyndon Johnson with his Great Society. Nixon a little with wage and price controls. Carter and his anti-market rhetoric, Bill Clinton with his land grabs and progressive taxation, then Obama continuing the traditions of the earlier Democrats. There are individual actions that we can point to as contributions to Fedzilla. It's amazing you make your claims and yet you cannot point to a single example to back your claims.
