My Dad was born in 1928, almost ‘29 and just missed the fight in WW-II. However he did serve in the Army of Occupation of Japan on Okinawa in ‘47/48, IIRC. Then he was called up for service in Korea for a little over a year.

Never did much roller skating myself as a teen, but the few times I tried it had a good time.
