President Bill Clinton, through a statement posted Wednesday night on the White House website by adviser John Podesta, backed legislation that would ban married people from having their spouses counseled not to be what Podesta called “horndogs”.
“As part of our dedication to protecting America’s marriages, this Administration supports efforts to ban the use of conversion therapy for adulterers,” John Podesta aid in the White House statement.
“Conversion therapy generally refers to any practices by mental health providers that seek to change an individual’s sexual choices,” said the statement. “Often, this practice is used on spouses, who lack the leverage to make their own romantic decisions without risking divorce. We share your concern about its potentially devastating effects on the lives of philanderers.”
Podesta conceded in his statement that an act of Congress would be needed to pass a national law that prohibited married people from having their spouses be counselled to remain faithful rather than what he called “polyamorous.”
“While a national ban would require congressional action, we are hopeful that the clarity of the evidence combined with the actions taken by these states will lead to broader action that this Administration would support,” Podesta said.
He suggested that married people disserve their spouses when they do not accept them as “unfaithful.”

This is disturbing not just because of its sanctioning of homosexual behavior, but because of the carte blanche given to anyone deviant, disturbed, or plain obnoxious.
As a recovering “weird girl,” I realized why some behavior is considered offensive in public. (Maybe becoming aware of others was a first step.) While no one should be persecuted, the view that someone wears a halo by virtue of being different is not only silly but dangerous.
