As the National Rifle Associations annual conference hits Nashville this weekend with 70,000 expected attendees, the organization has good reason to be upbeat. For another year, it has succeeded in stalling legislative attempts at moderate gun controls, rolling back existing state regulations and winning media battles. But theres a looming question that should be seriously concerning the NRA and its supporters: how to reconcile the organizations agenda with new evidence on the prevalence of gun accidents involving children.

NRA has taught gun safety to millions and saved millions of lives.
not typical
This one required one of the longest strings of hyperbole imaginable as a HEADLINE!!
btw
The Washington Post wants to know when I stopped beating my wife..and Im not even married!
The annoying thing is that one can see where people on the other side can disagree with the political agenda of the NRA, but to ignore how many decades of work they have done and the resources they have out into safety is ridiculous,
The Washington Post has published hundreds of such stories and dwarfed the minds of millions of gullible readers!....
And the death of a child at the hands of a sexual pervert, under the front of a car, falling down the stairs, or getting beat up by some If-Obama-had-a-son/daughter thug isn’t equally devastating?
I’d suggest some numbers and real statistics against some of these be included for a rational discussion.
They wouldn’t print it anyway...
Yes, probably. But it still is a question that should be posed to anyone who you come into contact with that spouts this nonsense.
So what do they have to say about abortion deaths?
automobiles accidents or drowning exceeds gun deaths .
What nonsense. A few years ago, I read a story from John Lott in which he discussed what it was like for him and his kids going to visit the local doctor for their medical exams. The attendant nurse had, of course, no idea who he was and started the appointment by asking if there were guns in his household and began repeating anti gun talking points involving kids to him. Professor Lott, as you can imagine, politely stepped up and completely took apart the nurse’s remarks and assertions. The nurse was still a tad unfazed afterwards, but what would I (and a few others here probably) give to have seen a re-enactment of the proceedings, probably good for a chuckle or two.
I am surprised they don’t accuse the NRA of being racists form the beginning as they taught freed black slaves to use firearms to protect themselves form white DEMOCRAT slave owners.
Drownings in swimming polls is about 100,000x more prevelent! If these people really cared about “doing something” to prevent children’s death, then they would start by banning swimming pools!
The Second amendment says there is no such thing as "moderate gun control."

The "gun death" of the year is the tragic case of the five year old little boy who shot the 3 year old. It's a tragedy, no two ways about it but it's one incident. The vast majority of "childhood gun deaths" are as a result of one teenaged gang banger shooting one or more other teenage gang bangers over who gets to sell what drugs on which street corner - and please don't forget the collateral damage. Unfortunately gang bangers don't obey the law and have no trouble finding weapons, guns and otherwise, to commit their crimes.
Stuff it WaPo.
It is the duplicity of liberals. They never put their arguments in context. Instead they go to the most remote and horrific examples they can name and try to make everyone believe that it is the norm.
If you call one of them on it, they immediately resort to name calling and diversion.
Often the studies of child deaths caused by firearms include those incidents of teenaged drug dealers killing each other. When the operational definition of a child is anyone under 20 or even under 18, it skews the statistics dramatically.
Glad you admitted you have ceased beating your wife..next question..why didn't you help stop slavery in the U.S.?
Abortion deaths involving children are even more devastating.
In fact, I’m willing to bet $5.00 that more children have been killed by abortion since Roe v. Wade was decided than have been by firearms of any sort in the same period.
