The outcry over the death of Walter Scott stems from a video, taken by an anonymous bystander,
that depicts police officer Michael Slager shooting at Scott eight times as he flees. In an interview with Time, however, Scotts brother says that the video may not have come out if the police hadnt initially tried to paint Slager as innocent.
Anthony Scott told Time that he found the circumstances surrounding his brothers death, caused after a routine traffic stop, highly suspicious. When I got there somebody told me that he was gone. And I was like what in the world? What happened? What happened? How did you get killed in a random stop? It just didnt make any sense to me.
Slager initially said that he shot Walter Scott out of fear for his life, claiming that he had taken his stun gun, and police performed CPR immediately on the shooting victim. The video, which Scott said he received at a wake earlier this week, showed otherwise:
He wanted to see what reports were coming from the North Charleston Police Department because of the fact that they may have told the truth, Scott said in an phone interview from home with TIME Wednesday. And when they continued with the lies, he said, I have to come forward.
I was angry. Shocked, Scott said. I said, We have to have that. So that we could prove it was innocent.
Scott credits the bystander and the video with getting Slager charged with murder. I think that if that man never showed the video we would not be at the point that were at right now, he said. The video tells the truth. It would not be so hard for us to prove that this man was running away when you get shot in your back. I mean how can you defend that?
The man who filmed the video has not yet been named.
If it was a routine stop why was the man running away?
He may not wish to be named. He would be a marked man at traffic stops.
The man who filmed it did the right thing. I hope he remains nameless and does not try to parlay this into his 15 minutes of fame, appearing on MSNBC telling the story over and over, thus stirring the pot to a another hot boil. We don’t need another Ferguson, and should not experience that this time because the police moved expeditiously to do the right things. The policeman has been fired, is locked up is charged with murder, although that will likely be changed to manslaughter or something other than murder.
I believe I’ve heard that he was delinquent on child support payments and that there may have been a court warrant for him.
why did the video start where it did.....is there more earlier footage that was withheld that may be helpful to the officer? FERGUSON all over again.....
I haven’t been following this story. But here’s the raw video on youtube:

From what we see it looks like murder but I still want to see the whole video.
Info person on Fox said he had outstanding arrest warrant for non-payment of child support.
On watching the video, the police charged the cop with murder.
That seems to routine for some folks.
That's a ridiculous statement.
What do you think that you would see that would justify the killing, and that the cop didn’t cover in the first two days before the video surfaced?
That's a ridiculous statement.
The excuse most runners give is, "I didn't want to go to jail."
“I believe Ive heard that he was delinquent on child support payments and that there may have been a court warrant for him.”
I wonder what he thought running away at that point was going to do for him? One might skate on a child-support warrant, but running from a cop that has tried to taze you is going to put you on a lot of BOLO lists...
What you described, with the earlier footage of the video ‘missing’, reminds me of the grandad of all modern race wars; the case of Rodney King. It was during that time of the early 1990’s that I made a switch from being a lifelong democrat to being republican. I did not want to be associated with those low down race baiters anymore.
Sure as hell looks like 1st Degree Murder to me.
Is it ridiculous? This incident had put Ferguson right back into play. Now even more will question the Police’s version of events.
