Eating meals out in Seattle just got more expensive as tens of thousands of low wage workers got a raise this week to $11 an hour. It was the first scheduled pay increase on the way to $15 an hour, the highest minimum wage in the country.

Long term outlook is Restaurants close and beef goes back to 1.49 a pound.
And french fry makers...
And fast food order takers ...
..... let me introduce you to your REPLACEMENTS.
Stupid, stupid liberals.
Servers across the Ranier Plateau are breathing a sigh of relief. Their wages have now gone to a guaranteed $15/hr.
Now, they need to take a weekend to figure out why their overall pay has been reduced due to the elimination and/or minimization of their tip income. The Seattle area has recently undergone a “tip” reversion of 10%...or less.
If my server is getting $15/hr (uhhhhh....$30K/yr!!!), they don’t need my tip.
I’ve said before, the people who work in restaurants ain’t going to be wild about this for two reasons. First, people will tip less because they know the server is getting increased hourly wages and the price of their meals is going up - are you going to give 20 percent when the meal goes from $ 15 to $ 20 as a result? Second, the wages paid are reportable income to the IRS by the restaurant owner - in the “old” days, when the employees made $ 5 or whatever an hour, they didn’t report much more than this, i.e., IRS always assumed there was a lot of unreported income from servers consisting of tips. Now, with tips going down and reported wages going up, they will probably lose whatever they get in increased pay through increased taxes.
“most of their tips were under the radar”...
Having served food, and also been a cocktail waitress-those were the favorite jobs when I was in college because you declared your own tips for tax purposes-and you could rake in as much as $100.00 a shift on weekend nights in a nightclub in the tourist area. It went a long way toward paying for books and tuition-no more of that in Seattle, thanks to liberals...
It is disingenuous for them to say they dont have enough to pay $15 an hour, said Sawant, Why dont they cut the salaries of the top executives and try to pay $15 and try to increase the wages for the lowest paid workers?
Third world socialist economics at work.
What say we free her family from any financial assets they have....you know...to help the lowest paid worker.
If this mess keeps up we'll look like the third world.
I doubt the Seattle market is going to affect beef prices in the USA ... :-) ...
AND ... for each pound of beef not sold in one of those restaurants, there will be two sold for people at home.
$15 an hour doesn't get you out of poverty. Heck, if that's her goal, then let's make the mw $45 an hour. Why stop there....let's go for $100.
She has a PhD in economics......she is the poster child against PhDs.
Minimum wage is a joke. With respect to financial stability, wages paid have absolutely nothing to do with it. They can make it $100 an hour and you are still going to have people at the bottom of the economic ladder crying poor mouth. Stupid people will continue to do stupid things with their money.
It's all in how you manage the income that you have.
One of MY basic laws of economics was taught to me by my grandmother. She said that you cannot get something for nothing. Liberals are hell bent on proving her wrong, but they always fail. Miserably.
It will not take long for this dummy to find out there are not that many $15 jobs 4 blocks away. Most of the jobs have been eliminated, hours cut or the person holding that position is going no where. Unemployment will sky rocket in Seattle and businesses will move out of the city limits or just close up!
It should be $5/hour.
On the other hand, I’ll bet the local grocery stores and kitchen stores like Bed, Bath and Beyond are doing a booming business.
Indeed, I will not tip when I go out anymore, since the workers chose to have their tip included in their pay.
And the only replacements I’ll see around me are from Foreign Workers here illegally anyway. No loss, as I don’t see teenagers anymore in the fast food industry.
EVERYTHING will become more expensive. Salaried jobs, retirement funds and savings will buy much less. Libs are stuck on stupid.
Seattle minimum wage increase takes effect and eating out gets more expensive..........so people will eat out less, so there won’t be a need for as many restaurants, so ther won’t be a need for as many cooks, wait staff, bussers, dish washers, etc.
Who would have thought such a thing was even possible?................Apparently not democrats...........
Eating out is getting outrageously overpriced. Got a flyer for a place, been here a few years. A “Jumbo Premium” [no weight specified] hamburger goes for $7 to $11 bucks to start. Bacon/cheese adds a buck, fries+24oz drink combo adds $3, and delivery adds $3 more. So anywhere from $10 for just the burger delivered to $19 with the works, assuming a $3 tip. I think what I can cook up with that money, and it would go way farther than one meal...but, that’s me. ;)
That was just wishful thinking.
I do believe that the ones clamoring for a 100% pay hike may find themselves with nothing or twice the workload.
