The number of Americans 16 years and older who did not participate in the labor force—meaning they neither had a job nor actively sought one in the last four weeks—rose from 92,898,000 in February to 93,175,000 in March, according to data released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

That is the first time the number of Americans out of the labor force has exceeded 93 million.

Also from February to March, the labor force participation rate dropped from 62.8 percent to 62.7 percent, matching a 37-year low.

Five times in the last twelve months, the participation rate has been as low as 62.8 percent; but March’s 62.7 percent, which matches the participation rate seen in September and December of 2014, is the lowest since February of 1978. …

Our side better figure out how to reach out to these people, because the robot revolution is going to create a lot more of them.

Yeah but that is not important, what is important is that gov’t unemployment figures are about 5.5%, evidence that obama’s economic policies are working./s

Totally unexpected. But thank God, homosexual weddings must be catered even if by government force!

Yeah, but they are going to be hiring millions of bakers to make all those homosexual wedding cakes.

Maybe we can bake some cakes with mushroom clouds on them to celebrate Obama’s deal with Iran.

The future in this country is in pastry.

But the unemployed number is still less than bla-bla-bla.
Lies, half truths and blatant falsehoods. That’s all you get from the media and the democRATS.

“...because the robot revolution is going to create a lot more of them.”

Its all those ATM machines!

While “robots” will put some people out of work, it goes far beyond just that. Otherwise our unemployment would have always been going upwards since Ford started his first assembly line.

Revise the tax code so we aren't the worst for business in the entire world.
Get rid of obamacare.
Build the fence.
Get rid of common core, emphasize real education so our kids have some skills.
Get rid of the welfare state - build up families again in the inner city.

Robots will put people who aren’t interested in educating themselves out of work.

Government handouts are a negative incentive to going through the effort of getting a good education.

For those who want to get the education, there will be jobs aplenty.

I expect the government will move to tax steel-collar workers (the owners of the robots, actually) and hand the take over to the growing ranks of the unemployed LIVs. After taking a nice big cut off the top first, of course.

Great post.
It’s a fun party for most everybody until the fake money runs out.

It certainly bought Baraq an unlikely election victory in 2012.

I have been reading about this robot thing.

First of all, it will not make 80% of the population permanently unemployed. A luddite revolution would happen.

Second, it is going to hurt the high IQ professions harder and faster. Legal zoom already has forced a number of smaller law firms out of business, and there are programs looking to do the same with doctors. My own field of engineering has been hit between rising college costs, H1B’s, and better design tools.

But finally, if this robot workforce takes hold, either we go hard socialist or the economy crashes. Simply put, if you don’t work, you can’t buy anything. So either those who do work pay for the four others who don’t, or the robots shut down because there is no one to buy the trinkets and services they are programmed to provide.

Sorry for the double post, but the education racket is going to crash, hard.

I have a newly minted engineer in my office. She has a quarter of a million dollars of debt for a bachelor’s. Her boyfriend has similar bills.

And they got out cheap.

If they decide to get married, they will enter into a marriage with a half million dollars of debt, jobs that pay about $65K (the real median for new engineers), and no possibility of having a house or a family. Both went to public universities.

If the GOP is really interested in doing something other than finishing second place, they need to address that. At the current prices, a higher education is not going to work for Americans. We are paying full price, while the jobs are going to those who are getting degrees paid for by their own countries.
