Could military force still be used against Iran?
CNN ^ | April 2, 2015 | By Jeremy Diamond

Washington (CNN)Does Thursday's framework deal on Iran's nuclear program take the military option off the table?

Not entirely, but it's a lot closer to the back burner than it was before.

The parties reached a preliminary deal to curb Iran's nuclear efforts Thursday, which gives the five world powers negotiating with Tehran until the end of June to work out all the details.

The diplomatic progress lessens the likelihood of a strike, but it doesn't completely rule it out. Critics such as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu might still decide the deal is so bad that force will be necessary to stop an Iranian nuclear weapon. And American and European distrust of Iran -- and a decision by Tehran to violate the deal and rush toward weaponization -- could bring the West to the same point.

An Israeli strike?

Israel, which isn't at the negotiating table, has vowed to act alone if necessary to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. And an Israeli military intervention could set back Iran's program several years -- likely two to three, according to several military experts. . .

CAN it be used? Of course.

WILL it be used? Not until at least 2017.

I haven't heard what any of the other participating signees to this farcical agreement think about it.

Have there been any other statements made besides John F'n Kerry's (who served in Vietnam)?

“Are you serious...and take a chance on endangering John F’n Kerry's Nobel Peace Prize.”

History is replete with the negative effects of mediocre people whose narcissism thrusts them into the limelight. Ultimately, no one remembers any of these people for long, except the really destructive ones (e.g. Hitler), and they also eventually fade into the woodwork. Pray that not too big a price is paid for the finite moments of fame.

Sanctions dropped and they’re allowed to continue with their program.

This pure and simply was meant to undercut Israel.

Go for it Bibi. Iran is going to keep enriching material regardless of what these Obama-led, anti-Israeli pansy fools give away anyway.

What a total farce.

Good point.

I was only considering possible actions by the U.S. I am guilty of not being inclusive enough.

gives the five world powers negotiating with Tehran until the end of June to work out all the details.

One can only note that it gives Iran, 90 more
days to finish building a device.

They must be close by now, of course they
aren’t just building one...

What is wrong with progresso’s. This deal guarantees an Israeli strike. Backed by a Coalition of Arab states. Obama will be chewing gum back in the corner.

The one option that could guarantee maximum damage and minimum retaliation by Iran would be tactical nukes.

The best strategy for using military force would be to take out not just Iran's nuclear facilities, but to also hammer their conventional forces and the military and police infrastructure used to control the populace. Only the US has the capability to do this, and it would require a bombing campaign that lasted weeks and suffered US combat losses.

The end game would be for the current regime to be overthrown or to sue for peace before we took out their economy and the exclusive housing districts where the mullahs and their families reside. Obama's claim that we would be stuck in a long ground war is fearful nonsense.
