How does the Mormon community react when one Mormon tells lies about another Mormon and brags of the lie's success.
LoL, that may be the truth.
Here's the Lds leadership "chronology" on abortion:
Chronology:
1973: LDS' First Presidency (Harold B. Lee, N. Eldon Tanner, & Marion G. Romney) restates the church's historical position on abortion. What "exceptions" for abortion were spiritually A-OK according to them?
(1)...except in the rare cases where, in the opinion of competent medical counsel...
(Stop the tape! Who usually "counsels" for abortions? Why free-standing abortion clinics do. In fact, they do about 90% of the abortions. So if a Mormon family takes their daughter to the abortion clinic, what do you think the "competent medical counsel" will counsel? In addition, the medical community is chock full of "competent medical counsel" that advises abortion).
Bottom-line spiritual fall-out for Mormonism's top leadership? That it was over-trusting in the medical community to begin with!
(2)...except...the life or good health of the mother is seriously endangered...
(Stop the tape there!...pregnancy isn't a disease and aside from ectopic pregnancies - which lead to both Mom & child dying - doctors aren't "prophets" who can predict the outcomes of pregnancies re: health effects upon Mom)
(3)...except...or where the pregnancy was caused by rape and produces serious emotional trauma in the mother.
(Stop the tape there!...even more exceptions...the mice are eating so many holes in the cheese what's beginning to remain?
1983: A decade later after its earlier statement, the LDS Church General Handbook of Instructions had dropped the produce serious emotional trauma from the exception (I mean come on, what rape doesn't involve serious emotional trauma? How insensitive to abused girls and women could Lds leadership be? And you, Saundra, defending such insensitivity vs. standing up for such girls and women everywhere! Shame and double shame. In the 1983 statement, the Lds leadership added incest to the exception list. So, a predator who commits incest could then "cover up" his crime by aborting him or her - all sanctioned by the church.)
1983, continued: (4)...except...Even then it should be done only after counseling with the local presiding priesthood authority and after receiving divine confirmation through prayer."
STOP THE TAPE!!! What? The Mormon god is now a before-the-fact conspirator in the murder of the pre-born child, along with local LDS counselors who might approve of any abortion???? Mormons agree with this? I know Lds are big on personal revelation but so were the the Lafferty brothers who killed a baby and his mother in 1984.
Please explain how Ron Lafferty had a supposed personal revelation from the Mormon god to kill his sister-in-law (& he killed her baby in the crib) and that's obviously out of bounds to us all but Mormons somehow think it's OK for the Mormon god to give the local presiding priesthood the authority via divine confirmation through prayer to commit open dismemberment upon a baby who has brain waves and a beating heart and all the body parts to boot?
That’s a very good question. I also wonder how good Catholic politicians can be strong abortion supporters.
Why did Reid convert? Marriage or votes?
Diet caffeine free cola.
Tongue-in-cheek
Reid is a devout and true Mormon, an exceptional Mormon according to his religion.
He was born in Nevada, and became Mormon in college.
Well, certainly, various church bodies (even more so Eastern Orthodox than Catholic) zone in on that concept of "divinization"...some (IMO) go well overboard...and others are so afraid of it they won't touch an interpretation of passages like 2 Peter 1:4:
Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
So first of all, let's "get over" it that any church body somehow "made up from scratch" a concept of "participating in the divine nature."
Essentially, with Eastern Orthodox, you tend to get a description of us becoming "gods" (small "g") or, more likely, that we are "unionized" with God to a degree of becoming "divinized."
Other church bodies would tend to focus that we "partake" of the divine nature thru the Sacraments (like communion) -- and, btw, that doesn't always mean the Catholic interpretation of transsubstantiation. (Luther, for example, believed we partook of Christ but that didn't mean we were biting into His very knuckles).
Certainly the writer of Hebrews wrote: "For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;" (Heb. 3:14)
So, we all, I believe, have to concede we have solid Scriptural grounds for partaking of Christ; of partaking in the divine nature.
And some of that may simply be linked to not only partaking of Christ, but that we are so intertwined with the Holy Spirit (in being His corporate temple), that it's simply part of having "fellowship" with the Holy Spirit:
14 May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. (Apostle Paul, 2 Cor. 13:14)
vette, although I may pigeon holed as a “mormon hater” as a result of my engaging in doctrinal discussions re: mormonism, I’m not. I view those of the mormon faith as I would any other, I judge them by their character. Reid’s “character” is beneath contempt, but I don’t gauge all mormons because of him.
The doctrine is what I, an ex-mormon, take issue with, not the people unless one has earned or deserves it.
My wife is still very active, so the local ward does make it a point to “check” on me now and again....
That question could be asked of all the other religions out there...........No sense picking on Mormons. (Yes, I know you're talking about Harry Reid)...........
Bishop Romney and his devout Mormon family (parents and siblings) were all pro-abortion, and he is a temple Mormon.
As he has said, many of the church leaders are pro-choice.
But, tell us: How is it that Harry Reid could remain an officially sanctioned "Home visiting teacher" within the Mormon church?
I mean, we don't see pro-abortion Catholic pols serving as Catholic ecclesial lay ministers, right?
I am encouraged by your spunk...
What you would be doing in such a case is demonstrating that you don’t “sustain” your bishop...
This would also indicate that his judgement is being called into question as well as that of the Stake Presidency...who called him, and on up the chain to the 1st Presidency.
They are, afterall, “called by god” for such a position...this could almost be construed by them as heresy...cause for excommunication.
(Yes, this is so...Romney is pro-abortion, which shows you how sad our political situation is to know so many voted for a pro-abort who also implemented socialized healthcare upon the people)
Could it be that Harry’s real first name is “Jack”?
Things aren’t always as they seem............
Similar..to the Islamic faith.
HAHAHA!!!
Unless you pay enough money.............
I think it’s when a new temple is built...a few million more dollars go into LDS, Inc...and an angel get’s his wings.
