Walmart's CEO is standing up against a religious freedom law that just landed on the governor's desk in Arkansas, home to the company's headquarters.
It's similar to the law Indiana adopted last week, which sparked outrage from those who say it opens the door for discrimination against gays and lesbians.
Walmart (WMT) CEO Doug McMillon asked Gov. Asa Hutchinson to veto the bill, which was approved by the Arkansas House on Tuesday.
The company is headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas. "Today's passage of HB1228 threatens to undermine the spirit of inclusion present throughout the state of Arkansas and does not reflect the values we proudly uphold," McMillon said in a statement.
It's not the only other state currently considering a religious freedom law. There are 14 other states looking at similar proposals this year, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
A number of big companies have spoken out against the Indiana law, including Starbucks (SBUX), Apple (AAPL, Tech30), Angie's List (ANGI), Yelp (YELP), Salesforce (CRM, Tech30), and Eli Lilly (LLY). NASCAR, as well as the NCAA, NBA, WNBA, Indiana Pacers and Indiana Fever have also expressed disappointment. And Connecticut banned all state-funded travel to Indiana over the law.

He could sign it at any time since it was passed.
Still waiting...
What if two gay singers don’t want to sing at a Tea Party event... or a Church event...
Can we sue the GAY SINGERS and FORCE them to do something they don’t believe in?
I live in Indiana and have seen first hand the insanity that is occurring.
It is not just that there is a hostility towards people of faith. Government and business does not hate religion.....afterall, they do have their religion that they worship: Money
I sent feedback. Thank you.
Blacks must serve at KKK rallies...
Straight fathers must serve NAMBLA meetings...
Gays must serve at Westboro Baptist funeral protests...
Either you want Freedom (where we have the right to follow our conscience, as is written in the Indiana Bill of Rights), or "Equality" (in that no person may say "no" anymore, so we are all equally enslaved, and the above examples may be forced on other people). Take your pick, protestors.
So who do you consider the winners- credit card users, debit card users, or food stamp users?
RE: Can we sue the GAY SINGERS and FORCE them to do something they dont believe in?
I have an idea, the RNC should invite Elton John to sing at their convention. I think he will accept. He sang at Rush Limbaugh’s wedding.
YOU GOT THAT RIGHT!!!
Hey CNN, maybe the Left is correct and the contemporary Wal-Mart IS the Devil.
The children of the devil are busy little bees! Meanwhile...The LORD says to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool”. JESUS calmly waits, maybe we should too.
Walmart is trash.
Just did. Thanks for posting the link. Will also make an extra effort to shop elsewhere! It's a small thing to do, considering.
Well, I hope the Targets and KMarts of the world don’t go political on us.
Many corporate entities seem to be, at least the larger ones. I’ve started buying many hard goods direct from China and online mom&pops via ebay and bypassing the Walmart/Boxstore middlemen. Will also double my effort to use local vendors whenever possible. Pretty much doing that now with groceries and meats. Last purchase of a gallon of milk at wallyworld had so much phenol (or some similar tasting chemical) added that it was undrinkable.
This law also strips away the right of Quakers NOT to serve in combat situations...
He is not going to sign it. He wants the bill recalled and changed or additional legislation passed.
He’s caving but doesn’t want us to think he is.
Ol Governor Bill Clinton would have been a lot more slick and convcincing that Hutchinson just was in front of the cameras a few minutes ago.
Wallmart, the corporation that loved food stamps!
Pence can kiss any talk of running for POTUS goodbye. Every conservative talkie was busy defending it and his decision then he vacilates to the godless sodomites using the guileful implementation of political correctness for a declared war on Christianity. Proves hes no crusader for conservativism.
