As you may have heard, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) this week officially joined the 2016 GOP primary scrum (or, if you've a yen for parsing narrow legal definitions, leaped past that scrum), in a fancy to-do at Liberty University -- a fitting venue for Cruz to lay down the foundation of his pitch to the conservative base, in which he adopts the persona of Jesus H. Reagan. Or, if you prefer, Ronald H. Christ -- it's essentially the same concept, and I am not a picky man.
But what Cruz did next was very puzzling: He signed up for Obamacare. A loud chorus of "Duh fuh?" ensued.
It couldn't go unnoticed that Congress' leading antagonist of the Affordable Care Act had gone out and voluntarily enmeshed himself and his family in Obamacare's loving graces. And don't worry -- it didn't. The political press got right to work, etching the narrative -- the tale of a man who'd gone out and faffed something up, produced a wincing gaffe in the hours after his much-hyped announcement.
The headlines tell the tale. ABC News went with "Ted Cruz Will Sign Up For Obamacare, the Law He Hates." Politico made sure to mention that Cruz was "one of the Affordable Care Act's harshest critics" in a report headlined, "Ted Cruz says he's going on Obamacare." The Washington Post's James Downie penned a piece titled, "Yes, Ted Cruz is a hypocrite for going on Obamacare." Slate's Jamelle Bouie disagreed, writing, "Cruz slipping on a political banana peel doesnt make him a hypocrite," in a piece titled, "Its Hilarious That Ted Cruz Is Signing Up for Obamacare." Vox took Cruz on a shopping trip for an Affordable Care Act plan. Life was full of laughs....

Every election cycle can be considered, first and foremost, a monument to hype. With every passing week, the political world is a blizzard of brash predictions, bold pronouncements, and bad advice. This year, your Speculatroners shall convene every Sunday and attempt to decode and defang in a way that will hopefully leave you feeling unharmed and less confused. We hope this helps, but as always, we make no guarantees!
I wouldn’t be surprised if we discover he pays his taxes too.
Man, I am just like, so in awe, like of his vastly smart wit and stuff. No wonder liberals are our betters!

I can't count the number of things I do that I think are stupid just because it's The Law. Not surprised that a liberal couldn't understand that.
’ This year, your Speculatroners shall convene every Sunday and attempt to decode and defang in a way that will hopefully leave you feeling unharmed and less confused. We hope this helps, but as always, we make no guarantees! ‘
How to spin. ‘I have, and will, protect and defend the Constitution’ into anything that sounds corrupt, greedy, dishonest, unappealing and/or in any way undesirable for one week, let alone a year and a half and then beyond, is going to be a challenge for these grifters in the press
The pundits on the not so left are in an even worse fix than huffpo and friends
Bernie McGuirk is going to have to find all new ways to say, ‘I do not like that man’ every week, now that he’s staked out that territory for himself The snark will get tiresome even for his New Yorkers - of course maybe not. Imus will retire soon.
Gutfeld and billing jumped in as well - and together. And they don’t even like each other
The entire pretend right’s schtick is under threat. All the whining will have to cease now that the answer to the problem has arrived on the scene
The wise will estimate Cruz correctly or hold off
I only caught Rush talking about it a little bit the other day - first day after - and Rush was scratching his head. Something to the effect that Cruz had no better choice.
I actually think Cruz did it as a shrewd political and campaign maneuver - kill two birds with one stone - a. he technically and legally gets health insurance but does it just like all of the Americans this has been forced upon and as a result - unlike hypocrite Clinton - he really WILL be able to say ‘I feel your pain’ out on the campaign trail.
Very shrewd.
Clearly, the Huffington Post is worried. I think they are worried that he might unmask something about Obamacare and the RINOs in power. And I think they are right to worry.
Will he be the only one at the podium (for either side) that can say, "I followed the law and my family is insured through this hideous monstrosity? I know what it's like to live under it first hand".
They can't all be this dumb???
As a matter of fact, they can.
Cruz is about following the law unlike the liberals.
Is it at all possible that the way he views things it
would be hypocritical for him to argue against illegal
aliens and their supporters while personally ignoring
a law he does not support? I call it shrewd behavior
and being consistent, as well.
“and I am not a picky man”—actually, I had my doubts that he was a man..
I was a little surprised to see them on FOX this morning tossing out the possibility that the media doesn’t know the American people as well as they think they do.
They think flying to someplace like Lincoln Nebraska makes them familiar with flyover country but it doesn’t. They need to spend a year living in a little town like where I live with well under 500 people. There is no Starbucks or McDonalds. We chat with our neighbors at the post office and church. We have no interest or need for lectures on race or gay and lesbian rights. When the media types do that, they might begin to have an idea of what flyover country is really like.
They could take a few days in a border city under invasion and see how much they understand about social pressure to use their high school espanol
What I liked about those two videos is that the journalist is actually asking questions and not just spouting off talking points.
Some are. But most are doing it because they are G-damned liars who know exactly why he is doing it, but will never give him any credit for it.
The only named stores here are an Ace hardware, CVS pharmacy, a Subway sandwich shop and a Dollar General. One bank, post office, two gas stations, one grocery, one feed and seed supply and one funeral home. No barber, no auto parts store or mechanic garage, no theater, no restaurants, but several churches. There is no industry here so everyone that works, drives a good distance for their jobs.
Both my wife and I have college degrees and have lived in large metropolitan cities, and have been in the fast lane many times. But I believe real America is embodied in the small towns and unincorporated "places" in the vast rural areas of this country. I watch the media on TV and they don't have a clue what goes on outside the elite northeast and DC. They could live on another planet for all I can tell.
If you get healthcare at all from the traditional market now, that’s Obamacare, you don’t have any choice.
