From the New Hampshire Union Leader:

MANCHESTER – In his first visit to New Hampshire as a declared candidate for President, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz drew a line in the sand, one that he hopes will separate him from the rest of the pack in a crowded Republican primary.

He embraced his reputation as the most conservative candidate as his surest path to victory.

The beauty of Cruz is that, not only does he have the intellectual chops to understand what the Constitution and Bill of Rights says, he has the Reganesque ability to explain them to the American people in easy terms and to tell them why they are important.

Cruz can rally the right. Duh. Meanwhile Bush can ignore the right. Who has a better plan for the general election?

According to Gallup:

38% of the country identifies themselves as Conservative

34% of the country identifies themselves as Moderate\

24% of the country identifies themselves as Liberal*** This is a record %

According to Battleground:

58% of the country defines itself as anywhere from “very conservative” to “somewhat conservative”.

Only 37% define themselves as “very liberal” to “somewhat liberal”.

There is a natural conservative base. You doesn’t have to live in the squishy middle. Someone like Cruz just needs to tap into the conservative base. Its there. It has just been neglected.

Just to follow up….

Gallup has a similar poll;

40% Conservative to Somewhat Conservative

35% Moderate

23% Liberal to Somewhat Liberal

4% with no opinion.

Cruz: "Republicans lost the White House in 2008 and again in 2012, because Sen. John McCain and Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney failed to ignite conservative passions."
What's that? No way! I thought they lost because "Conservatives had their widdle feewings hurt and stayed home" - at least that's what the GOP apologists keep telling us here on FreeRepublic...

I live in MA and keep missing chances to see him speak. Anyone know how I can get info about his appearances?

And yes, this household is rallied. 3 of 3 eligible voters will be voting Cruz.

I don't want to be the "surest path" to victory. I want conservatism to be "victorious"!

They can't argue his positions, intellect or character, so his opponents have decided that "he can't win" is their best mode of attack.

This is his response to that meme.

“The beauty of Cruz is that, not only does he have the intellectual chops to understand what the Constitution and Bill of Rights says, he has the Reganesque ability to explain them to the American people in easy terms and to tell them why they are important.”

And without seeming condescending or arrogant (contrast Mr. Teleprompter). He can argue calmly and intelligently and coherently, whether in front of Supreme Court justices or the American people.

Hi donna, I hear ya after all the back-stabbing we have been through with pretend conservatives.

BUT, I do think this guy is the real deal.

Check out this article:http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3273571/posts
“The platform he described in his announcement speech Monday is about what you’d expect from a candidate whom the number-crunchers at fivethirtyeight.com calculate is right of Barry Goldwater, more conservative than any serious GOP presidential hopeful in 2012 or than the other potential candidates in this election. He would end Obamacare, establish a flat tax, abolish the Internal Revenue Service and put more resources into securing the border. He promised to repeal “every word of Common Core,” even though there is little to repeal”...

Okay, good points. I'm hanging on.

He does seem to have the higher level of knowledge and wisdom and human experience and boldness that we used to expect from elected leaders.

yes, but you know as well as I do that those that identify as “conservative” are much more inclined to disclose that they are conservative, while that 35% of “Moderates” contains a majority of people with liberal beliefs who don’t want to be labeled as liberals.

But in any case, Cruz is right. He can rally the base.

I honestly can’t see how a conservative could not like the man. He is strong socially, but that’s not his only platform. He is strong fiscally and fights Obamacare and government waste as hard as he can. He is strong foreign policy-wise and stands up for our allies.

He’s not Duncan Hunter, he’s actually succeeded in getting his name recognition out there

He’s not Fred Thompson, he’s actually running to win and will campaign as hard as it takes to get across the finish line and not just “expect” people to support him.

He’s not Tom Tancredo or Mike Huckabee he’s not a single-issue candidate, but is solid across a wide range of policies.

He’s not Newt Gingrich, he’s an even better debater and doesn’t have any Pelosi couch moments.

He’s not Sarah Palin, he actually got into the race and isn’t leaving anything to speculation.

Like Limbaugh and Palin, when he speaks, he commands and audience. I do not get the whole “running out the clock” and reports that people get “annoyed” at his lengthy speeches.

I read an article from an inside the beltway “conservative” that called Cruz an “a-hole” and that “unlike Reagan, Reagan was a likeable figure”. Now I was just a kid growing up when Reagan was President, but I’m pretty sure no one in the media referred to him as a “likeable” guy. They’ve been trying to throw this out there so that they can compare Cruz to 64 Goldwater while writing off the results of the 80/84 Elections.

I can tell he is different just by the people on FR that have gotten on board. Back in 08/12, there were many factions here fighting for their candidates, but Cruz has the support of many (if not most) of those people here. I have not witnessed that in almost 10 years since posting here. This is indeed something different.

The way I see it, Cruz is the last chance for Conservatives to stay within the Republican Party. If the RINO/Establishment prevails, then the conservatives need to leave the GOP and begin funding a new party.
