Even though Virginia is one of only a few states not having to deal with the alleged "dumbing down" of the controversial Common Core, many parents statewide are now concerned with the proposed ban on zeroes from the classroom so that students' feelings aren't hurt.

This’ll work as well as not scoring a baseball game! The kids keep track of the score anyway and know who won and who lost.

I had to go and finish up my degree.
I sat in class with a paper and pen while the kids got their computers out.
After a test which they call them quizzes as the word test puts too much pressure on them they told me they missed 3 or 4.
I heard this and thought how stupid were they as this was a multiple choice test , yes they have multiple choice now and how could they miss it as they only had to guess.
It was not for two weeks that I found out they meant missing was to get it wrong.
These kids can’t even say they got something wrong instead they say they missed it.
Then if a certain % get a question wrong the question is thrown out.
Boy has school changed and I;m not surprised they did not do well in the class as they spent most of their time on FB in the class room.
What a joke today and yes there is a kid on my youngest boys soccer team who is awful but his dad the coach keeps telling him he is really good. Is it any wonder why kids like him have an ego when they are crap and won’t work to get better.
I believe the zero came from India.

If we're banning zeros, wouldn't that be "a score lower than 5_ percent"?
And by the way, how are you going to work the math: if there are 100 questions and you only get 10 of them right, do you still get 50 percent? Isn't that going to get confusing when you go to Algebra class and the teacher tells you that 10 out of 100 is 10 percent, but you have a paper proving that, at least in that school, 10 of 100 (or 20 of 100 or 30 of 100 ...) equals 50 percent?
