Another name for electric cars is "coal-powered cars." That doesn't sit well with those who want to demonstrate their green bona fides by driving a plug-in vehicle. But it is in many cases accurate.
Anyone who begs to differ can take up the argument with Chris Kennedy, a professor of civil engineering at the University of Toronto. He told the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. that, depending on the province, an electric car can produce more carbon dioxide than a gasoline-powered car.

Look in the comments section. Some leftist jackball was saying that all the coal plants are in republican states,
and that the new regs and carbon tax would finally force them to go to solar plants instead.
Notice the glee behind the idea of forcing political opponents to submit to leftist will.
there are no free lunches
LOL! Them sneaky R states are pumping all that evil coal pollution across state lines in an attempt to kill folks in (d) states. Or something.
Shhhhhhh. You’ll just confuse them and make them think you’re talking about moochie’s school menu.
"..MOOO..and it's making us cows sick..mooooo"
I would be curious of how much coal is burned for each mile one of these cars drive, and how much CO2 is produced by the coal burned per mile driven.
It’s got to be way more than gasoline being burned directly inside the engine.
Anyone have an idea on these figures?
I’ve heard that, on balance, electric cars contribute more pollution than today’s low emission gasoline powered cars. Reason being, because the electric cars are recharged, in many places, with electricity generated in coal fired power plants.
If the liberal enviro wackos got their dream, and there were millions of electric cars on the road tomorrow, the electric grid would not be able to handle the demand to recharge all these vehicles.
Lefties are a sick sick crop. Time to plow them under and hope we can begin to grow something useful.
I’d get a Tesla if they had their free power stations where I live. But not to save the planet. It would save me tons of money in the long run. I commute 160 miles a day.
Did you know that two guys on two bikes produce more CO2 than two guys in one car?
When you examine the religious aspect of it,
it’s that those states are “evil” by definition of leftist righteousness.
That’s a part of it, but the poster revealed more of the vindictive nature of the left - desiring to see their political opponents punished through the power of the State.
Well, they obviously need to hold their breath until the bike ride is over. It ain’t rocket science. :>}

Companies do the same trick with departmental budgets. If your department needs to cut their budget, remove expenses that go towards other departments and have the charges just come directly from that department, thus giving the effect that you cut your budget when really it just got passed off to someone else.
Electric car + solar is the future imho. Tesla Model 3 + Solarcity’s prices = cheap sustainable transport. Solarcity could sell electricity at same or lower cost than fossil fuel right now.
I’m in favor of this not because I think this will save the environment, but because the price has come down a lot
This is only news to Low Information Liberals. When 50% of electric power used to recharge batteries comes from burning something, that is a fact of life when it comes to the environmental burden of recharging an electric car.
I guess this is only news to the extent it shatters the myths that liberals think are truth simply because of their good wishes.
exactly...but even here at FR there are true believers who think this is the future
The truly laughable thing is that the driver may actual believe than man-made global warming/climate change/disruptification may actually be REAL!
For those that believe in the Socialist/Marxist “science” there is no possibility of Falsifiability. No fact can dissuade them from the rock solid “truth” that their ex-hippie Communist professor told them in school. The talking heads on TV news know much more than YOU know, because YOU are a Conservative. Politicians now more about science than anyone because they have a “D” after their names.
I bet you could sell them “Envir0-sustainable Turd-on-a-stick” for five easy payments of $15.95.
It's biodegradable!
