"An Airbus A320 has crashed in the southern French Alps, a security source has said." & "A Germanwings A320 has crashed in the southern French Alps, according to security sources."

It sounds as if the aircraft was in a controlled descent and the power must have been pulled back, possibly speed brakes used. "Somebody" was controlling the aircraft on the way down but "somebody" may have been the autopilot if it were set by the pilot at altitude for a controlled but rapid descent but it seems the pilot was perhaps no longer in control shortly thereafter. I suspect a pilot set the aircraft for an emergency descent, perhaps shortly after donning an oxygen mask.
However, the lack of radio communication with the ground is unusual. Notice of an emergency descent would have been given to Air Traffic Control by the pilot as soon as the situation was under control and the pilot had time to transmit, I would think. Therefore, it is probable the pilot(s) were incapacitated quickly after descent was initiated but before they could take other actions - either donning masks or calling ATC.
The debris field looks like a mid-air explosion. That is suspicious and does not look like the aircraft was flown uncontrolled into the ground but destroyed prior to impact at some altitude above it.
Methinks it is way too early to rule out terrorism, but the black box should tell the tale.
Reading through the threads, I was wondering about this myself. Perhaps depressurizing by remote control, messing with the oxygen devices in some way, etc.
With all the talk about driverless cars being controlled remotely, and hacked... we certainly live in uncertain times.
On planes I’m familiar with the pilot, or someone else in the cockpit, has control over both cabin heat and supplemental oxygen. If both heat and oxy go off at , say 30,000 feet, the passengers could be frozen stiff in a matter of minutes. I always suspected something like that happened with the Malaysian plane since none of the passengers seemed to try to get off a cell phone call. They were’nt out of range of civilization initially.

If the Germanwings flight crew had one member donning an oxygen mask (mandatory for all flights above 30,000 feet according rules for international civil aviation organizations), even if the cockpit had a sudden decompression the flight crew member wearing the oxygen mask would easily have time to safely bring the plane down to around 12,000 feet altitude, which is the upper limit for passengers flying in an airplane with an unpressurized cockpit. That is unless both crew members did not wear an oxygen mask when the decompression occurred, which would incapacitate both crew members within 15-20 seconds flying above 30,000 feet.
The route varies due to weather/traffic...this link has previous days routes plotted, here is March 18 & they went over central France that day: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/GWI9525/history/20150318/0835Z/LEBL/EDDL
Sure does look to me, from these pics, like it came apart in the air. The debris field is like it fell thru a sifter. I don’t see a skid mark. And fron seven miles up it still would take five or more minutes for it all to hit the ground. If it had started down before it got shredded that would explain the apparent nine minute descent.
Hovering at 10K can be.
No, it got obliterated on impact, pile-driving into the rocky mountain face.
This is not shocking.
1956 Grand Canyon crash - although that involved 2 planes in midair first. THEN the debris field mostly (except what was damaged in the midair collison) in close proximity on the slopes. And basically, slower speeds.

Interesting and thanks for your thoughts.
The Obama administration has positively ruled out terrorism. I wonder how anyone can do that without all the black box parameters and data in hand and a detailed study of the aircraft from the moment it started its path downward. I rule out nothing and, I trust the Spanish, French and German investigators will come up with the real truth, rather quickly, because all three countries have very large aviation industries and excellent regulatory agcenies for airline operations!!!
I believe the aircraft was controlled in descent, and the high speed it impacted the mountain, crated the wide range debris field. Just don’t know who was controlling the aircraft, the crew or hijackers. Or, possibly the crew was passed out, and the aircraft just descended and flew directly into the mountain!!! We shall know, shortly!!
May all who perished R.I.P. in our Lord’s heaven of paradise!!! Prayers for all of them and their families & friends!!!
I don’t understand how the “Obama administration” can so confidently rule out terrorism at this early stage of the investigation. Makes me think someone knows something and this is an attempt to cover it. Tinfoil hat, yes - but Obama and anyone associated with him are not to be trusted.
Lack of cell towers in the middle of nowhere maybe?
There were 39 on board with Turkish passports. One, two or more could have caused a problem, maybe with a cohort on the ground in Barcelona participating in an inspection or servicing the plane. But even if it was a technical problem, why would the Obama folks come out immediately with "nothing to see here" if there was a chance they would have to walk it back if the black boxes show otherwise? It's just stupid.
Well, every thing they've done or said in the last 7 years has been a loaded statement just like this one. Remember: "If you like your health insurance, your can keep it. If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor." Benghazi - it was all about a video. ISIS - give them jobs and they'll stop chopping off heads.
“I trust the Spanish, French and German investigators will come up with the real truth, rather quickly, because all three countries have very large aviation industries and excellent regulatory agcenies for airline operations!!!”
And guess who almost ALWAYS gets called in?
The US, because we are second to none and virtually no one has all the abilities our agencies have.
It is foolish to immediately “rule out” anything, BUT based on the circumstances that we know, nothing wrong with merely discounting it as unlikely.
Which I do. I do not think everything is Moslem, although I hate them and don’t put anything past them. Still, they have an MO and this is not it.
Mountains? I lose the signal on my cell phone while driving through low foothills.
IF the odongo admin has “positively” ruled out terrorism and the odongo admin is a known pathological liar, then the only conclusion is “terrorism”.
IE” “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor”...LMAO.......
I believe the very opposite of everything these liars say.
Could have also been a murder-suicide in the cockpit by one of the pilots or a crew member.. I’m anxious to see the pilot’s names, especially.
