Yay, Obama doubled the spending on food stamps in six years.

I used to teach those classes when unemployment in my area was around 2%. Guess how that worked out?

career coaches Show up. Every day. No matter what. That's a lot of it.
Other minor stuff is doing what you say you'll do, and admitting when you don't know something.
I never had to fire anyone that showed up on time, did what they said they'd do, or admitted when they don't know something.
Fired plenty that didn't understand the 40 hour concept.

The answer is simple: don't give them any money, they will get a job real quick. Why should it e si hard? It works everywhere it is tried, especially in Singapore. 2 Thess 3:10: King James Bible: For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

when a family is in front of me in line in the supermarket, and they don’t speak english, and then, they pull out their food stamp card, my blood pressure must shoot up to 230/150.
thats the first law they should pass, you can’t come here and get food stamps, period.
of course, i’m being naive, because i’m sure the first thing certain (and i say certain), immigrants do, is go right down to the welfare office and sign up for every program there is.
and, in massachusetts, we bend over backwards to make sure these new americans know how to get every cent that is available..

From the article:
House Agriculture Committee Chairman Mike Conaway, R-Texas, praised thecf grants, saying that states' innovative approaches "will help able-bodied SNAP recipients climb the economic ladder."
I am aware of lots of "able-bodied SNAP recipients" who have absolutely no desire to climb the economic ladder.

Why don't they lay off state workers and put the food stamp recipients to work at those jobs to pay off their debts. Good way to cut spending!

“In Georgia, participants would use an online tool developed by the state to create individualized work plans.”
If it involves their state’s job “try-out” program, it’ll just be a welfare program for someone else - as it has more success with keeping people repeatedly “trying out” than finding actual work.
If not, it still would be a welfare program - just to a more politically acceptable entity (those involved with administering and accepting these people).
I’d agree that getting rid of illegals would end up being a better plan. It lets the market work, even if it means an increase in wages and/or improved working conditions. Now if guest worker programs were removed, that would help with those that were in higher-skilled lines of work - as it would remove the “false shortage” problem.

In the last 60 years, we have introduced a new phenonema to humanity: "Fat Poor People."

America is the only nation with "poor" people who have cars, computers, cell phones, air conditioning, flat screen TVs, and eat out regularly.
48 Million Takers of Food Stamps is an obscenity.

Good problem solving involves identifying the problem. Then determine what is the simplest, most practical, most obvious solution.
The problem is too many people getting food stamps. There's no need for programs or classes or anything.
If the gov tells them to report for work, gives them a time and location, a certain percentage (who are gaming the system) won't. Take those that don't off food stamps. Put those that show up to community clean up work or whatever for free in exchange for their food stamps. Repeat next day. Another percentage won't show up.
Those that keep showing up, have job fairs to get them employed, now that they have a good work record.
Problem solved.

“States to test ways to send food stamp recipients to work”
The correct title to the article should be “States to test new ways to waste the taxpayer’s money to send food stamp recipients to work”.
Hey! It’s attitude and pride that make people actually work so that they are not leeches upon society.
You can’t teach attitude and pride! That’s something that is instilled into you by your parents in the early years of your life. Welfare leeches have no idea what that is.
This is simply another waste of the taxpayer’s money so that another government program can be justified and funded.

I drive past the local "insert PC term for welfare here" office frequently. Noticed a large "Job Fair!" sign one day, parking lot nearly empty. Two weeks later, there was a line from the office down the street to the next block...
I queried "what the heck is going on???"
No surprise to find out, it was "free handouts" day for school supplies and such.

Step 1: Take away all government benefits for 30 days.
Step 2: Keep repeating step 1 as long as necessary.

Maybe they can require these loafers to don babushkas and wield whisk brooms doing something useful like cleaning the streets in front of apartment blocks?
At least the solution will match the intended reason they got them on the food stamps in the first place.

I say they should work like a prison road gang. Don’t chain them up - if they leave they get no govt assistance and are ineligible to apply again for a period of time. If they want the aid, then they put in 8 hours a day, 5 days a week hard labor.
