Primarily you are looking at taxpayers dollars that provide EBT cards, that are ultimately buying drugs, said Sheriff Deryl Loar, of the Indian River County Sheriffs Office in Florida.
Electronic Benefit Transfer cards (EBT) allow individuals receiving government benefits such as food stamps to charge products to the government when they shop.
The Indian River County Sheriffs Office tells WPEC-TV that career criminal Anthony Wheeler is not the first accused drug dealer found taking payment for drugs with taxpayer-funded electronic benefit cards.

The United States has the best-fed, best-housed drug culture in the world.
Can you post bail with your EBT card?
That would just about cover everything!
You’re right about that. Have suggested to my Congressman that either stores permitted to accept EBT cards needs to be limited to those pre-approved with particular pre-approved items allowed or they need to do away with EBT cards and just have locations where people can go pick up a prepared box of items.
Re EBT cash added should be totally stopped and payment mailed directly to any utility company that payment was truly intended for.
Crickets on both issues.
Stop subsidizing it.
I been buying coke/pepsi from a convenient store next to where I work. They have a few food items in there including 1 lb of bacon for $6.59. I thought no one would pay that. I was right, but the store is walking distance from low income housing so they walk there and use their single payer food card (EBT) and have no idea what food is supposed to cost. It isn’t their problem.
so they walk there —
to buy bacon ...
The walk is good for their health. Just imagine how extra fat they would be without that necessary bit of exercise.

What I learned for today:
If you click twice on ‘post’ (accidently, even) you get TWO posts. (Free, Kind of like EBT.)
“1 lb of bacon for $6.59”
While that’s high, it’s no higher than than the current retail price at the “big” grocery stores around central PA. Truth be told if I was out of bacon I’d pay more, a lot more.
That’s about what our grocery store sells bacon for. This taxpayer used to buy the off brand bacon but they quit selling it so haven’t been able to afford bacon for a long time.
My wife and mother of our 8 kids buys food from the discount store where you bag your own groceries with bags you buy. My kids would not know what bacon tastes like at $6.59/lb.
Well now, that can't be possible. "Conserving Freedom" keeps telling me that drugs don't cause injury to anyone else. I keep telling him that taxpayers ultimately foot the bill for drug usage in both direct and indirect costs, but he keeps saying that's nonsense.
How it’s done:
The dealer takes the EBT card and pin number.
When the card is ‘refilled’ the dopehead gets 1/2 the card’s value in drugs.
Repeat next month...
Simple, like most EBT fraud it could be cheaply eliminated by going to a signature system most stores already have for credit cards.
Political donors and the media don’t wnt EBT fraud stopped because they get their cut out of the eventual food purchases anyway.
reason enough to mandate welfare recipients to be drug tested every month and if they test + or refuse the test, they lose their welfare for life
The treasury dept. cracked down some on the corner stores here (Rochester, NY). The current m.o. is to take a recipient shopping. You buy $100 worth of groceries, charge it to their card then give them $50 when you’re outside.
