More Seattle restaurants close doors as $15 minimum wage approaches

Seattle’s $15 minimum wage law goes into effect on April 1, 2015. As that date approaches, restaurants across the city are making the financial decision to close shop. The Washington Policy Center writes that “closings have occurred across the city, from Grub in the upscale Queen Anne Hill neighborhood, to Little Uncle in gritty Pioneer Square, to the Boat Street Cafe on Western Avenue near the waterfront.”

Of course, restaurants close for a variety of reasons. But, according to Seattle Magazine, the “impending minimum wage hike to $15 per hour” is playing a “major factor.” That’s not surprising, considering “about 36% of restaurant earnings go to paying labor costs.”

How many, and what percent of the total number? Will it be 2 or 3%, or 30-40%, or somewhere in between?

Lefties are getting what they voted for. Tough to feel bad for them although I do have sympathy for the business owners that didn’t want $15 per hour for just this reason.

Fire the ones who lobbied for the raise, first. Let the others work as long as possible.

Idiocy. Most places can’t support $15 an hour.

As I read this article I shake my head in disbelief. As businesses move out of Seattle it will put more people on unemployment, turn the city into a ghost town with tax revenues falling....etc...etc...

Perhaps the day is not far off when fast food places have two employees per shift, mostly for logistics and janitorial.

There is today’s liberalism, thinking having the power in government to do anything you please, and then there is reality. The media is the biggest enabler of these falsehoods.

The sad thing is these statist liberals/progressives will just shrug off all the damage they have done to the small business man, the backbone of what made America work, and look for other ways to exploit them for their own government greed.

Seattle won’t be a ghost town....but it will crimp the budget of people visiting there because these costs will certainly be passed on to them....

Yet, even as this is unfolding, just as those of us opposed to it kept saying, Democrat state legislators are introducing a bill calling for a $16.00 per hour minimum wage. Idiocracy in full effect here in Washington State.

I assume you will have a situation like we do here.
The Indiana border adjacent to Chicagoland is loaded with stores.
Suburbs on the Seattle city border should prosper if they play this correctly.

There is notihng stopping the states from using their 10th Amendment-protected power, such power constitutionally unchecked with respect to minimum wage, to shoot their feet off as a consequence the foolish use of such power.

If socialists ultimately sink Washington State as a consequence of chasing their minimum wage fantasies then we can always remove a star from the flag.

Liberals think an economy is a perpetual motion machine.

They believe they can take taxes from people, give those “revenues” to OTHER people, who will then spend it on goods and services, causing the economy to improve.

No one in in Seattle ever goes TO the ‘burbs except to visit relatives and extremely close friends.

16 in 2016. Then they can go up from there every year. By the year 2099 minimum wage will by $99 only to fall back to $0 when the year 2100 hits. Hopefully these useless idiots will get it before then.
