"...super rich tend to be liberal for subconscious recognition that placating the poor and credit enslaved contributes to the status quo and therefore secures their wealth and influence."

Ben Carson explains this syndrome in his book. I'll find the quote and get back...

...and when ALL the Proletariat make a livable $16 an hour...that’s everyone but “me and mine” - it will be a perfectly ‘changed’ country..../s

Why so cheap? Why not make the minimum wage $5000/hr?

Note that the Founding States made the 10th Amendment (10A) to clarify that the Constitution’s silence about things like miminum wage means that such issues are automatically and uniquely state power issues, no business of the federal government’s. So there’s nothing stopping this billionaire from using his influence to successfully campaign a $16 minimum wage in Washington State.

However, there is nothing in the Constitution stopping the states from shooting their feet off as a consequence of foolish use of 10A-protected state powers. So I suppose that the other states can always remove a star from the flag if this billionaire sinks Washington State with his minimum wage idea.

Oh great. A freeper giving them the great idea to match the year to the wage. To cover inflation and stuff.

Why doesn’t he start a pilot program using his own money, he doesn’t even have to pay 16 an hour just enough to all the people who live in his city, extra wages to bring them up to 16 an hour until the schmuck runs out of money.

If it works so great in his city maybe we can think about it...

He also pushed for (i.e. spent a million dollars) the new gun law in Washington state. Now I’m breaking the law when I let my son shoot my gun at the shooting range! (I’m somehow supposed to file and pay for a $45 Federal “transfer” every time).

Vending machines. Card swipe to pay. Restocked by a multi-location "rover". All the human employees are gone. Exactly what happened to my company cafeteria.

Billionaires like Hanauer are pushing minimum wage increases hoping that people will forget that the middle class is dying. A $16 minimum wage translates to a little over $32,000 a year. In 120 years, that person will be able to afford the down payment on a house in Seattle.

Screw the labor class. Time to automate most of these useless “jobs” (i.e. service/retail level). Then that will eliminate the need for these “minimum wage” jobs, so no more “raise minimum wage” crap.

Why only 5%? If 5% is good why not just make it 99%? If no one had any incentive to lord it over other people then we would all be equal and happy. Everything would be FAIR.

We could stand in bread lines together. We would all have brotherly love and share and share alike.

Oh man, it would be beautiful. It would be perfect.

I’m going to go vote now....

I disagree. Everything is about the money. When they say it is not about the money, its about the money. The super rich are pulling up the drawbridge, they made theirs, now they do not want you to make yours. If you are a billionaire, you are in territory where the minimum wage means nothing to you. The billionaire is established and dug in like a tick. If you are starting out, and maybe compete with the billionaires business interests, well you are a threat to the billionaire. The minimum wage increase will hit the small businessman in the wallet, not the billionaire. It might mean the difference between success and failure. In increase in the minimum wage will protect the billionaire’s interests.

a generous freeper would use the full year, 2016/hr, not the frugal 16/hr.
