Washington (CNN)Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson apologized for commenting Wednesday that prisoners' changes after they leave jail proves being gay is a choice, but said that the science is still murky on the issue.
In a statement, Carson said he "realized that my choice of language does not reflect fully my heart on gay issues."
"I do not pretend to know how every individual came to their sexual orientation. I regret that my words to express that concept were hurtful and divisive. For that I apologize unreservedly to all that were offended," he added.

If he actually apologized he just shot himself out of the race. By apologizing he brands himself as the lout and criminal that the left wants to paint him, They come at him with a brush and he gives them paint.
This thread is exactly why conservatives can’t elect anyone.
This is a sure fire sign to me that someone is not close to being ready.
If he didn't think of how to defend it then he shouldn't have said it. He got lots of applause for it as well as criticism.
So Ben then why not treat same sex couples the same as our mom and dad's were and are?? Are gays the same victim status as blacks are?
Clearly Carson nice guy as he is is not close to ready.
I will say the same to him as I posted here about Palin in 2011, try Senator first and lets see how it goes.... maybe now my wisdom has been shown... .
What he said was idiotic.
He’s a rank amateur.
I'm reminded when Cain wanted to sound "tough" on Islamofacists so he gave some applause line about how he would "never" hire a Muslim to work in his administration. After liberals balked and accused him of religious bigotry and violating the "no religious test" clause in the constitution, he caved by visiting and touring an american mosque, apologizing to muslim leaders, and groveling for their forgiveness. The media effectively neutered him, and that was before the phony sexual harrassment stuff that finished him off.
Bottom line: Carson would probably make a great Secretary of Health and Human Services, but I'd prefer not to see him as a Presidential candidate.

There are many good things about him that we should like a, but this make believe POTUS stuff following Cain, Newt, Trump, Palin, 's 2011 bad play acting ..Jeeze

Cain was entertaining. He was a caricature. He made us laugh.
Till his past exploded.
But this is just silliness.
I like Carson but he is humiliating himself with this.
Even as a VP candidate he doesn't work.
If we want an adult as President, you're right.
But Dems say loopy, stupid, off-the-cuff stuff ALL THE TIME and their accomplices in the media NEVER call them on it. During his first campaign (and even his second) Obama tried to look so smart that he came off looking like an idiot ("57 States," "Do you know the cost of Arugula?," "Bitter clingers," "You didn't build that," "If I had a son," etc., ad infinitum).
And he's at the top! They ALL say nutty, offensive stuff!
If Ben had the sort of "air cover" the average donkey has, it would have been spun away at worst.
The idea of him as a Presidential candidate is ridiculous, like the others he is humiliating himself to get free cam time.
To be a VP you must be an attack dog.

My bar for that is pretty high, too. I’m sure Dr. Carson is a fantastic doctor and a good man. But that doesn’t mean he’d make a good President. In General Aviation circles, they have a name for certain high-end private planes: “doctor killers.” This is because sometimes doctors mistakenly believe their skill in medicine automatically makes them skillful at other things, such as piloting. The result is they get themselves and others killed.

Maybe he owned prison rape victims an apology (and all us because what he said is stupid and made our side look stupid), but not queers.
I agree with you on both, but he would have been far better of closing his mouth, period. It shows he is not shrewd, which to me is a basic requirement .
