He’s not alone. My family doctor doesn’t take insurance... he got tired of dealing with their hassles. He has a monthly fee, with a discount for families, and unlimited visits. He makes house calls if necessary. He’s been doing it this way almost 8 years now.
My minor operation went from $6,000 to $1600.
1) paid cash
2) When doctor had a slow period.(10 days later)
We have not had health insurance since January of 2014. My wife needed a cyst removed from just inside one of her lips. The total cost was $385, all inclusive, but since we were not using insurance, she paid it in full with Amex for $104.
The number of stories with these percentages (even when talking thousands of dollars) are legion. The whole health insurance thing is a scam.

I am absolutely certain that having established government (ie. political) control of the insurance market, cash-only or direct-pay clinics will eventually be banned. We will be told they are “too unregulated,” “too dangerous to people’s health.”
Look for the government harassment to start until he gets his mind right.
I had (and have) no insurance and required surgery to repair
severe Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
I found an orthopedic surgeon who would take cash.
I was informed that the procedure would have run $5,600
if I had insurance.
Cash - $1,932 for everything - surgery, office visits, follow up, etc.
It makes a huge difference, doesn’t it? Mine was a top rated doctor, as well.
The other added benefit is that your claim or medical record is not submitted to the insurance company w/o your consent. If you have a very high deductible and co-pay, you probably should not your claims and records to the insurance company.
The point is that you can maintain confidentiality of your medical records. This is not of trivial concerns if you want to keep your guns, guard your identity or maintain employment. Remember Anthem recently had a security breech. Most independent third party free doctors keep paper records or if they use electronic records, they will not be hooked up with any insurance companies or the government.
Government is the least of his problems. He's a bigger threat to the insurance companies and the medical provider companies.
That’s what happened in England. Eventually private medical came back, but was strictly regulated.

Exactly, the government.

I had an MRI on my shoulder. I pay 20% of cost after the deductible is met, which it isn’t usually, but happened to be when I needed the MRI. The imaging center “charged” insurance something like $2000. The insurance “negotiated rate” was $350, of which I paid $70. I do not understand this practice. The imaging center knows how much insurance will pay, why inflate the price? Why the game?
I was seeing a chiropractor to help rehab my shoulder. I only get so many visits per year covered by insurance. At the very end of last year my number of visits had all been used and the chiro tried to tell me that they would have to charge me a higher rate. We discussed it and they then decided they could charge me the same amount as when insurance covered it. I held that they should charge me less as they were receiving cash and had no paperwork to do. They finally agreed.
When I first saw the Vista print commercial I thought he made the leather products that he had his Vista business cards displayed in.
Saw the same commercial yesterday and noted his business card had “Doctor” on it. I wondered what kind of doctor he was.
The thing is if you have to pay a monthly fee of $200.00 or 300.00 that that is 2400.00 or 3600.00 then you will get charged a penalty if you do not have Obamacare which could be next year based on an income of 35K $1,000.00. I guess it is still cheaper than a mandated insurance policy. What happens if you have to have emergency surgery?
Can't have the Peasants getting all uppity now can we?
