PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Ted Cruz may not be running for anything yet, but the senator from Texas nevertheless presented his theory here Friday night for why a presidential candidate like him would be best positioned to win back the White House for Republicans.
The conventional wisdom in political circles has been that to win a presidential election again, Republicans must broaden their appeal to more moderate swing voters, especially women, minorities and young people. It's a message former Florida governor Jeb Bush, a favorite of the party establishment, has repeatedly delivered as he prepares for an all-but-certain presidential run.
But Cruz, also a likely 2016 candidate, has a different take. He argued in some detail to a gathering of elite conservative donors that a Republican candidate could win only if he or she motivates more conservative activists, especially evangelical Christians, to vote. He posited that former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) lost to President Obama in 2008 and 2012 because "millions of conservatives" who cast ballots for President George W. Bush's reelection stayed home the following two cycles....

Ted Cruz is right. The GOP cannot even win if it nominates a liberal like Romney.
Yes and no.
I agree that our best chance to win is with a clear, articulate conservative.
But 2016 is going to be similar to 2008....except this time, the nation is fed up with the DNC rather than the reverse.
The good news is that we could strengthen our majorities in congress.
The bad news is that a spineless moderate, like Jeb or Christie, could win.
It is good to see conservatives coalescing around Walker & Cruz. I get very upset when anyone from FR takes a shot at either candidate as they are the best ones in the running.
He is right. The Vichy Republican thinks he/she can attract leftists from the hi-diddle middle. There is NO ONE in the middle. The nation is polarized.
Bring out the Conservative vote and there will be a huge victory. Run a Jeb Bush, a Mitt Romney, a John McCain, and the conservatives will stay home. The RINO crowd think they are the darlings of body politic, and that their money will create an image which is irresistible to charismatic mongering marginal leftists.
Conservatives have been resisting RINOs for years, and will continue to do so until revolution is necessary, or until invasion makes the whole country wake up. Meanwhile we will continue to cling bitterly to our bibles and guns, smiling all the way.
Ted Cruz is right.
That’s why Jebbish is going to be nominated.
He’s the designated loser.
Nana says giving Conservatives a Conservative to vote for is key to winning White House
as in Conservative not “conservative”
Exactly. “Conservative” inside the beltway means conserving things the way they are.
Ted is correct
Jeb Bush is a maggot.
Jeb Bush. Hillarys’ best chance at the Presidency. Dole, McCain, Romney, when are the fools going to learn. Maybe the pubs are uncomfortable with leading. If we can’t field a leader this time around I guess that would prove the point.
... from voting in the next 3 elections! Once in office I will repeal the 19th Amendment and re-institute property, literacy, and poll taxes as voter qualifications. I will deport all Mexicans, and replace them in the work force with snotty teenagers from the High Schools, which I will also close.
*"Deadly" Force: i.e.,
on Election Day I will throw massive block parties on Martin Luther King Boulevard, have a Loot-a-Thon featuring burning liquor and appliance stores, and give away free sneakers until after the polls close.
I will have 90% off sales at Target, Sam's, Wal-Mart, and Chico's for the Ladies.
I will sabotage all social media so that the young will not even know there is an election. I will also hide the car keys and cell phones.
¡Si, se puede!
