Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, in a rousing and well-received speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference Thursday, drew a proverbial line in the sand between true conservatives like himself and squishy moderate Republicans who may also decide to seek the partys 2016 nomination.
In a speech focused on the divides among the prospective 2016 candidates, the Tea Party populist threw bombs at Washington, at Hillary Clinton and, most frequently, at his fellow Republicans.
If youre really a conservative, youd be in the trenches, youd bear the scars, youd have been fighting the fights, Cruz told an amped-up crowd. So if youre a candidate who has stood up against Democrats, great. But when have you been willing to stand up against Republicans?
The comments appeared to be directed at other Republicans likely to jump in to the race like former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie who conservatives have accused of holding moderate positions on issues dear to the movement, including immigration reform and education.
We need to look to people who talk the walk, who dont (just) talk to talk, Cruz said, adding that actions speak far, far louder than words.
But Cruz didnt limit his scathing remarks to his fellow GOPers. He also let loose on President Obama and Hillary Clinton, who will likely jump into the race for the Democrats in coming months.
Washington wants Obamacare. The people want liberty, he said, continuing with his show-stopping us-and-them motif. Washington wants amnesty. The people want rule of law. Washington wants power of the internet. The people want freedom online.
And what about the Democrats likely choice as their own nominee?
Hillary Clinton embodies the corruption of Washington, Cruz said, prompting yet another round of wild cheering.

“YOU CAN KEEP YOUR DOCTOR!!” and “I can’t unilaterally act! It would be unconstitutional!!” Barack Hussein Obama.
Top THAT!
Bravo Senator Cruz!

This is no time for somebody mediocre representing us, nor someone you are not sure what they will do if elected, WE NEED A FIREBRAND! Ted Cruz is that man.
How can any real conservative doubt it, after listening to him at CPAC.
And someone who will leave nothing to the imagination as far as exactly what their view is on why this country is decaying and EXACTLY what they will do about it.
I'd bet, for example, the first ten people who read this, even on an educated site like this, couldn't tell me what Cruz's exact position is on immigration and his exact plan for dealing with it.
If we don't get that leader, a Hillary or Warren will waltz right into the White House in ‘16 because they are not afraid to tell their lemmings exactly what is on their statist minds. And the lemmings will follow because the have no articulate leader telling them otherwise.
The only real conservative candidate.
I agree. Desperate times call for exceptional leaders. The usual mediocre guy is just not going to do it this time around. We need the real meal deal.

I listened to the live feed, and it was a fantastic and dramatic demonstration of elite level communication skills. Ted has the ability to speak extemporaneously on multiple topics, without even approaching a podium. And everything he said was spot on.
Cruz/Martinez 2016!
Hannity asked Cruz if he was constitutionally eligible to be president. Cruz had an interesting answer. Cruz stated that he was born in Canada, that his mother was an American citizen by birth which under federal law made him an American citizen by birth and that the Constitution requires the president to be a natural born citizen. As much as I like Cruz, I didn’t like his answer. He obviously equates “citizen by birth” with the higher standard “natural born citizen.” Cruz is not a “natural born citizen.” However, since that constitutional requirement has been waived for the current president maybe he, too, should get a waiver.
Walker is pretty good on his feet too, without need of a teleprompter.

That is what people do when what they say comes from their hearts, not from a speech prepared by staff members.
And, according to the Constitution and statute law, he is absolutely correct.
Don’t want to start a war between the states here, but I do think the part of the country a candidate hails from means a lot. There is no comparing Wisconsin with Texas when it comes to conservative issues.
Were he president, I don’t think Ted Cruz would stand any different on the issues than he has already abundantly shown. He reflects Texas values in that regard.
When it comes to unions, we know Walker has done an outstanding job. But there’s a lot more hot issues than that out there - issues that mean a lot to some of us.
Were he president, what do we really know about how he will come down on other issues? Would he reflect only his home state’s values? Which, as I mentioned, are not nearly as conservative as Texas.
There is a lot of unknowns about Walker, not so with Cruz.
