National Review ^ | 2-25-2015 | Andrew Johnson

Two prominent House committee chairs are “deeply disappointed” in Federal Communications Commission chairman Tom Wheeler for refusing to testify before Congress as “the future of the Internet is at stake.” Wheeler’s refusal to go before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday comes on the eve of the FCC’s vote on new Internet regulations pertaining to net neutrality. The committee’s chairman, Representative Jason Chaffetz (R., Utah), and Energy and Commerce Committee chairman Fred Upton (R., Mich.) criticized Wheeler and the administration for lacking transparency on the issue.

They need to cut the power to the FCC HQ etc. Our side plays nice, the other side is scorched Earth.

Under what authority does the FCC Chairman have the right to refuse to testify before Congress. Is he or is he not a Federal employee? Drag his sorry ass to the Hill and force him to testify or pull a Lois Lerner. Enough is enough.

It’s obvious why the FCC Chairman won’t testify on this issue: there are rules in that 322-page proposal that gets the US government directly involved in what is allowed online—a direct violation of First Amendment free speech rights.

Send the sergeant at arms out along with a cadre of sworn officers to round him up by his neck if necessary and haul him in.

That’s my answer, too. You don’t want to answer to the people’s representatives? No problem, just don’t expect a paycheck this month.

The Internet is not the new radio...its the new printing press...

And a government that controls who can and who can't have access to that “printing press” has the power of a tyrant....

Freedom of the press is just that.. the right to freely communicate in mass without government control

This needs to be attack in the courts as government interference in freedom of the press..and therefor an attack on freedom of speech and the 1st amendment

Is the Internet the new printing “press”?..that is self evident..just by observing it replacing the old printing “press”....

If the Republicans really cared they would do two things:

Not just the chair, but the entire FCC board would receive subpoenas to appear before congress, and they would get them before bedtime. Second, there would be an explicit threat that the FCC budget will be slashed to zero unless there is cooperation with congress on these proposed regulations.

But that won't happen. And everyone knows why it won't happen, beyond the fact that Republicans in congress are whiny duplicitous cowards.

The real reason that nothing will happen is that Republicans love big unaccountable government almost as much as Democrats do. Except for a mere handful of individuals, they are all 0bamba Republicans now.
