Customers are paying back an average of $530, which has caused a 17 percent drop in the average return so far this spring, according to the analysis by the tax services giant.
H&R Block has predicted that most filers would owe some of their subsidies back to the federal government because they were relying on 2012 income.
The new data, which was released Tuesday, only represents about six weeks of tax filings. Still, it could pose a significant challenge for the administration as it faces an already tough tax season.
Its costing taxpayers a large percentage of their refund a refund many of them count on to pay household expenses, Mark Ciaramitaro, vice president of H&R Block health care and tax services, wrote in a statement.
Last week, the Department of Health and Human Services asked 800,000 people to delay their tax filings because the agency sent out the wrong forms. The average refund so far this year is about $3,000, according to H&R Block.
Officials said last week that less than 10 percent of people had filed their taxes.
Was let go from my job of 20 years last June. When Cobra ends next December, I will go without insurance for a year and a half until Medicare kicks in. And will gladly pay for my own healthcare AND the dam penalty. SOOO much less than paying $400/month + $6000 deductible. ($11,000 a year for NOTHING????? NFW) I hate Obamacare, and am disgusted with my country under this “Pres-dant”.
Good for you....adopting.
It must be very rewarding....and they are 2 lucky kids IMHO.

When withholding teacher's union dues in Wisconsin was stopped and teachers had to write a check every month, teacher's union membership took a steep and continuing nose dive.

LOL... To all of you worthless lib Obama voters that may now be suffering: I am drinking your milkshake. After the next election when we get a ‘real’ president, I’ll be eating your burger, fried chicken and your watermelon. LOL
I doubt this is money they tied up all year. Many people who file will get money back because of all the credits they earn
and end up not paying much in taxes.
Yep, he pretty much owned the little lake for years. He got used to me, I could get pretty close.
You're right, assuming you're a normal, working taxpayer. What you missed was that refundable Earned Income Tax Credit.
Yes but the point is the money is your money or others who have their tax money given to people who did not earn it. So they take more money from you and you will have less spending power because you gave yours to someone else.
They are beautiful birds. I remember, as a child, watching them wade along the lakeshore in the early morning. My grandparents had a lake cottage in central Michigan. Many childhood memories.
The AVG. is $3k? That seems a bit high to me.
And don’t forget the stories of applicants being coached to lie about their income by the “navigators”. Some of these people did this to themselves and didn’t think it would be caught.
‘relying on previous years’ incomes’
also a lot misreported their incomes on the ACA website to get a subsidy and now they’re caught.

obamacare = ACA = body mortgages
Not with the Earned Income Tax Credit (sliding scale based on actual taxable income), and Child Tax Credit ($1,000 per kid in direct tax reduction, even if you owe zero - as long as your taxable income is below a certain threshold and your kid is under a certain age at the end of the tax year).
