The first nationwide oil refinery strike in more than 30 years was expected to grow by four more plants over the weekend, including the largest refinery in the U.S., the Motiva Enterprises refinery in Port Arthur, Texas.
The United Steelworkers union said Saturday workers at the Motiva Enterprises refinery started their strike at midnight Friday. Employees at two other refineries and a chemical plant in Louisiana planned to strike at the end of Saturday.
The union said in a statement that it expanded the strike that started Feb. 1 at refineries largely in Texas and California because the industry has refused to meaningfully address safety issues through good-faith bargaining. The union also wants to discuss staffing levels and is seeking limits on the use of contractors to replace union members in doing daily maintenance work.

I smell a rat, and its name is Obunga. I see this as being related to his intention to veto Keystone pipeline. Don’t need a pipeline if the refineries aren’t running.
OTOH, you REALLY need a pipeline if the petroleum tank car trains now transporting crude are derailing, crashing and exploding, as happened this week.

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner!
Ah! Another way to help depress the price of oil while raising gas prices. Just what Obama wants!
They know that when Obama is in office, they can cause maximum chaos in pursuit of their selfish ends, with no chance of recrimination
Just a coincidence.... Happened Wednesday in Los Angeles.
See the smashed vehicles from the explosion yet no one was killed as if they were warned.

HOUSTON (Reuters) - The largest U.S. refinery strike in 35 years entered its fourth week as workers at 12 refineries accounting for one-fifth of national production capacity were walking picket lines as of 12 a.m. CST (0600 GMT) on Sunday, according to union officials.
A total of 6,550 members of the United Steelworkers union (USW) at 15 plants, including the 12 refineries, are involved in the work stoppage that began on Feb. 1 when talks for a new three-year contract between the USW and lead oil company negotiator Shell Oil Co stopped.
Talks were resumed but have halted again after nearly reaching an agreement on Friday, said sources familiar with the negotiations.
After the latest breakdown between the two sides, Steelworkers leaders targeted Shell, which is the U.S. arm of Royal Dutch Shell Plc, calling workers out at a chemical plant and three refineries in the company’s Motiva Enterprises [MOTIV.UL] joint-venture with Saudi Aramco [SDABO.UL].

The refineries continue to run on non-union personal.
