From Johnny earlier today:
"Time to fess up.
Turns out I have brain cancer that moved there from my lungs. Prognosis is poor. I had brain surgery a couple of weeks ago.
Of course, being me, I intend to fight hard to the very end, and beat the odds. I may well be around for harvest season this year. That is my intent. Normal prognosis is in weeks.
I've held off on bringing this up on FR for several reasons. But the time to bring it up is now.
Consider this my opus. It's as close as I'm going to get to giving one.
I really want to thank Jim for giving us a forum. Jim, you do good work. Thanks."

Johnny, I’m sorry to hear this news. I’ll hold you in my prayers.
Johnny, you are truly one of the good guys. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Don't we all.
We shall all enter death's door someday; very few avoid it.
But have we made plans for the Other Side?
Psalm 116:15
Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints.
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
Am reminded again this morning to pray for you, and I am.
Over the years, whenever I scrolled through the replies on a thread, I would always stop when I saw your name.
How many times I was awed by your plain talk, common sense, and wide ranging knowledge, which you freely shared.
How many times I would think “I wish I had thought of that”.
You didn’t brook any fools, either.
My hope is that you will know how much you are valued by us here on Free Republic and that would be of some comfort to you.
We have asked the Father for His healing touch to descend upon you, and like King Hezekiah of old, that the shadows would move up the stairs and you be granted additional time with us.
God bless you, Johnny.
I love JRandom!
Lord, please strengthen him with Your Love and Mercy. May Johnny and his family be comforted in this time of difficulty. In Jesus’ name, Amen
Cancer sucks. My dad has Pancreatic cancer and is having a "whipple" surgery on Thursday.
Johnny, sorry to hear this. I’ve enjoyed your posts. I hope you can beat this terrible thing.
Hang in there JR!
Johnny, you are so loved! It started on the gardening thread last night, then someone else started a thread, now a third thread. It’s like you have a FR ministry! Maybe we are another good reason for God to give you more time. Bless you today, stay strong.
Hang in there buddy.
I am so sorry to hear this. I have always enjoyed you being here on FR. I’ll be praying for you.
God bless,
Sara
God bless Johnny, all of us here are praying for your recovery.
Thanks for all your input over the years. No matter the topic, as I’d be scrolling through posts and see one of yours and have to stop and read it.
Prayers up for healing and comfort.
Prayers said for you and your family, Johnny. God Bless
Prayers, Johnny! Sending lots and lots of hugs!!
I pray the the Lord Jesus Christ will grant you His peace that passes all understanding, during this time.
JRF:
Our thoughts are diverted this morning to consider the fact that things do not always turnout as we had hoped.
Our prayers are made in the hope that the condition of our FRiend will turn for the better
I had no idea, and I'm eternally grateful for FR. I've been here for over 15 years, and there have been lots of good times, and hard.
FR is the reason for all of this, and for the political action taken.
I expect that the political action will continue long after I am gone.
You guys keep fighting the good fight.
I can't believe all of this for just a cook. Prayers are appreciated, and usually start with "Lord, make this boy right...."

Johnny,
I hope you you get to see this, amongst the literal thousands I’m sure you will receive.
You have been a shining light in my years of freeping. And so I offer up prayer, to God through His Christ, for your healing. I pray that He still has work for you to do here and that this illness is just another refining for you to go through in this life.
I do not know you personally, sir, but throughout the years of reading what you have written, I can say you are my FRiend.
The Lord WILL call us all home from here in His time. Johnny, I look forward to seeing you the, in person.
But in the meantime, I must confess to a little selfishness. I’ll be praying for you to recover and stay with us here a bit longer.
Take comfort brother.
I can imagine a lot of exclamations like that in heaven.
