Likely 2016 presidential hopeful Ben Carson is receiving a mixed reaction to news that he will be among the featured guests at Al Sharptons upcoming National Action Network convention. A conservative star, the retired neurosurgeon was listed among several high-profile speakers set to join Sharpton for the April event.
In response to a Twitter post by the NAN promoting the convention, many Carson supporters openly questioned his decision to participate.
Losing respect for Ben Carson if hes [sic] speaking at one of your racist rallies, one Twitter user wrote.
Sites like Twitchy were quick to jump on the news, sparking increased social media discussion. While the announced appearance certainly earned Carson some criticism, plenty of others saw it as a potential positive.
Hearkening back to the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast during which Carson became a household name by criticizing the Obama administration in front of Barack Obama, some felt he is positioning himself to create another similar moment in front of Sharpton and his allies.
Ben Carson and Al Sharpton together? one post asked. Either the weather is so bad hell has frozen over or Dr. Carson is gonna go prayer breakfast on Al.

I have no problem with Carson speaking at this kind of rally in and of itself. It will be VERY interesting to see what he has to say.
What harm could come if he espouses conservative ideals to the crowd?
This is going to be good.
Ben ain’t got no fear.
Ben in just going into the den to confront evil head on ! One brave man.
Totally agree. Bring him on!
No harm in that. Most people at a Sharpton rally would automatically reject a conservative message from a white person. Maybe the racists will listen more if a black man gives it to them.
I don't think Dr Ben is as Conservative as we'd like, but he DOES have some good things to say
Not presidential, IMO
Yeah, I gotta agree. Carson is right about a great deal of things. Wrong about immigations and other issues.
But this? Giving any credibility to the racist reverend?
Deal Breaker.
Unless he goes there to rip Al a new one. Which I doubt.

Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, and Yes.
narrow minded ness continues to plague conservatives that seem to have big problems with the fact that Dr Carson is smarter than they can ever dream of being themselves
Any bets that Ben will go “prayer breakfast” on Al. Hope they film it all so everyone can see it !
Sharpton is pro-abortion.
Anyone who speaks at a Sharpton event is pro-abortion.
Or else you have to hold that it’s perfectly okay to speak at a Klan rally.
I think this is really dumb, if for no other reason that it empowers a racist flim-flam man.
Sharpton is a racist anti-semite, that sure doesn’t mean everyone who goes to this get-together is.
If you are afraid to enter the enemy’s camp, you cannot win.
I smell LSM spin...
“Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.” - Sun Tsu... or Vito Corleone, your choice!
I will wait and see what he says. I often fantasize what I would say if King Putt came to my town and I was invited to speak. It sure wouldn’t be kind words. I think the good doctor is too smart to jump on board the shakedown train. But we’ll see.
Could be like that time Carson spoke negatively on Obamacare with Obama there. Maybe like that. Was that a prayer breakfast? I think so.
You have got to go where the enemy is to fight him.
Not ready for prime time. Find a new hobby Ben, politics ain’t your thing.
