Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has hired longtime GOP strategist Rick Tyler, who worked for Newt Gingrich in the last presidential campaign, to be a part of Cruz's growing political operation.Tyler was Gingrich's spokesman and ran a super-PAC backing the former House Speaker at different points during the 2012 presidential campaign.
"I am honored to come on board with Sen. Cruz and join the effort to make D.C. listen to the American people," Tyler said in a statement to the Houston Chronicle, which first reported his hiring. "I believe he will emerge as the conservative leader of the next generation because he understands that it is not 'we the bureaucrats,' but 'we the people' who make this nation exceptional."
Tyler joins a growing Cruz team that has also added Missouri-based strategist Jeff Roe, who's expected to become campaign manager, if Cruz officially launches a presidential campaign, as well as communications adviser Jason Miller and fundraising consultant Laura Lofstrom.

Cruz would be better served with Newt as his spokesman. Newt is the best conservative spokesman/debater in the business.

I think Ted Cruz just may give Newt a run for his money with respect to that this election season.

“Newt is the best conservative spokesman/debater in the business.”
I’m beginning to think Newt may have a challenger for that title.

Newt may be a very good debater, but he pales in comparison to Ted Cruz; plus Cruz does not have all the personal baggage like Newt.

Is Newt a contenda in the 2016 race? Newt is smooth, Cruz is edgy. Newt could help Cruz with that.

Sorry, I never heard of Bill Whittle. Is he a radio commentator somewhere? Newt’s unforgettable destruction of the ‘moderators’ in the 2012 primaries was priceless in the way he ‘killed ‘em softly’. He’s the fastest pol on his feet, second only to RR in his prime, IMO.

Totally agree .. Bill Whittle
Other contenders are Ben Shapiro and Needham from Heritage.
If Cruz could get all those guys on his team .. it would be a wonderful thing.

Newt is the best conservative spokesman/debater in the business. He's past his sell-by date. Cruz is better representing himself, and is a great debater in his own right. He won some competitions in debate in his past.
Newt goes all weird on things. Remember when he was in love with Alvin and Heidi Toffler? Remember when he made commericals with Al Sharpton and took up minority education as a crusade?
He's a smart guy, and he gets bored, and flits from topic to topic . An intellectual gadfly. It makes him really interesting and smart, but it's not the best trait in a politician, particularly an executive.

Newt brags about being a progressive.........
you know...................HIMSELF..
He must mean “really” progressive not like the commies.. who are regressive..
The punch line on this is lame... if not politically stupid..

The article concerns Cruz hiring a “communications adviser”. My point is why not hire Newt instead of Newt’s adviser? If Cruz intends to run for POTUS he could use some coaching on getting his point across without pissing off the electorate who are not rightwingnuts like us. Nobody is better than Newt at doing that.

I understand your point.
I think Newt could be an very good informal adviser for Cruz. Newt's not a campaign professional, so it would be odd for him to be hired formally in that role. You have to hire professionals, and campaign professionals are careful to remain grey and anonymous for a good reason. (With a few exceptions, like Carville, but you see no one hires him now because they would have to spend too much time defending his statements, past and present)
A formal relationship with Newt would lead to all sorts of negative things for Cruz, and not do anything positive -- assuming he can get his help discretely.

Cruz would be better served with Newt as his spokesman. Newt is the best conservative spokesman/debater in the business. Newt should stay behind the scenes and be an advisor to all the conservative candidates. He should have done last time.
