NEW YORK (AP) — NBC News has assigned the head of its own investigative unit to look into statements that anchor Brian Williams made about his reporting in Iraq a dozen years ago, an episode that's ballooned into a full-blown credibility crisis for the network.
NBC News President Deborah Turness announced the probe in an internal memo on Friday. Williams has apologized for falsely saying on the air that he was in a helicopter hit by a rocket-propelled grenade while in Iraq in 2003, and Turness said Friday the anchor expressed his regrets to his colleagues for the impact the episode has had.
"As you would expect, we have a team dedicated to gathering the facts to help us make sense of all that has transpired," Turness wrote. "We're working on what the best next steps are."
Richard Esposito, who has worked at the New York Daily News, New York Newsday and ABC and is now at NBC, is leading the investigation.

What’s to probe? He admitted it.
That said, this episode really doesn’t change my opinion of NBC news or the media in generally. They are all neck deep in dishonest narrative reportage. They’re not about news gathering, but about information management.
Oh, and don’t forget that MSNBC is part of NBC news.
This is happening because the media was complicit in selling us the bill-of-goods that is Barack Obama.
Lying has never been a punishable offense, by anyone in the media, prior to now.
Why now? Because the people are pissed. NBC’s phone ringing off the hook. Especially angry are their viewers who realize their party is now dead as a doornail. It’s a mass emotional reaction to having been had.

Look,, this how it could play out.He is going to get on camera; sniffle a bit, dry a tear, say he is sorry. Claim he has had some problems, and is going into rehab. Spend a month in seclusion. Then back on the job. See? Fixed it.
Now what’s going to happen to the idiots like Brokaw and the NBC heads that admitted to knowing this guy lied for years AND DID NOTHING?
