Rand Paul (R-Ky.) waded into the debate over vaccinations Monday, telling conservative talk show host Laura Ingraham that he thinks most vaccines should be “voluntary.” Paul, an ophthamologist and likely 2016 White House hopeful, expressed particular concern over mandatory vaccinations for sexually transmitted diseases. He criticized former Texas Gov. Rick Perry for his executive order mandating that Texas children receive the HPV vaccine. “I’m not anti-vaccine at all,” Paul said, but “I think that’s a personal decision.”

Rand Paul really gets nothing.
It has never been forced and shouldn’t be.
As far Hep C, I agree no reason for it.
The reasoning for them is that of course any children born now will grow up to be sexually immoral and expose themselves to such diseases.
As for flu shots, I don’t think they are necessary, but are not any harm.
That’s right, it’s about freedom of choice. And if you are not immunized against a disease that you pass on to my infant grandchild before he has had his vaccination, do I get the choice to just kill you?
Because if that happened, I would really really like to do that.
Common denominator is recognizing autism as a disability with entitlements to other people’s money and special treatment.
This drama over vaccinations is another way that the leftist totalitarians cover their tracks because the real reason for this issue is the illegal aliens.
Nothing like getting conservatives to throw muck at each other to take the attention over their fascist imperialism.

Anyone who thinks vaccinations are bad should visit an old cemetery established before the age of vaccinations. Look at the number of dead children.
It is then you realize why so many of the families before the 1900s had as many as 15 children because most of them would never live to adulthood due to diseases that are today preventable with vaccinations.
If those who want all kids in school vaccinated go ahead and vaccinate their OWN kids, what difference does it make when someone who isn’t vaccinated arrives?

Aren’t they already? I unfortunately don’t have kids yet so I don’t know, but do you mean to tell me if you have a kid they force you to have the kid vaccinated?

Agreed. According to CDC’s own site, measles had been deemed eliminated in the US in 2000. Now there is an outbreak.. why? We all know the answer.. it just isn’t being reported as the cause.

I HATE Government corruption. This issue is a great example of corruption and cover up. The CDC continues the mantra, vaccinate your children, immediately if not sooner yet they refuse to investigate/study the increasing rates of Autism and vaccine injury. Then the pundits and doctors continue to promote the CDC Vaccinate Mantra without even knowing that the CDC is negligent in their job to protect the recipients of these Vaccinations.
Hell...some companies force their employees to get ‘flu’ shots...this is nothing new.
Rather the blame has to go to BOTH the illegals and those whose kids are not vacinated.

I scanned all the way to YOUR post before I found what I’d “hoped” to see.
Most people my age (80) will sadly remember a time when kids didn;t complete a school year without a class mate dying from DPT,whooping cough, scarlet fever, samllpox, POLIO, measles, chicken pox, or a long list of other “childhood diseases”.
I think the majority of today’s population has NO memory of outbreaks of those once dread diseases. Worse, there is no memory of why they no longer run rampant through the schools.
Your suggestion of examining old cemeteries and seeing the appalling numbers of child deaths between a few months and the late teens is an excellent one. If one went to a cemetery and actually charted death ages, I’m afraid to think of the awful percentage of below age 10 deaths.

Paul is a quack. Far more people are killed by diseases than from the complications of vaccines. I suppose if smallpox were still common in the world, he would advocate voluntary vaccination, too.
Thank you. If we don’t protect our kids from the diseases being brought in with the illegal traffic, then we’ll rue the day.
I’m not crazy about vacinations, but I’d rather be safe than sorry. This administration is hellbent on exposing us to the worst side of life in every way. We have to protect our own!

I agree up to a point.
diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, scarlet fever, polio were killers.
No memory of anyone dying of measles mumps rubella, chix pox. and if you look at the cemeteries of the sixties and seventies, there are precious few deaths from those outbreaks.
True, before vaccinations children DIED from measles, smallpox, and polio.
But, you're all wet when facts and reason are applied.
It is a fact that vaccines have a limited effectiveness. They do not work on every one who is vaccinated. The effectiveness on a mass population is dependent on a sort of "firewall" generated by the majority whose vaccines are working effectively. Your vaccine for polio, for instance, may be a dud. But with so many around you who are vaccinated, you are protected by their vaccine from being exposed. As soon as enough people are not vaccinated, you will contract polio because your chances of being exposed increase.
You take for granted this "firewall"--the way so many take for granted our military whose sacrifice gives us freedom.
Wander around old country cemeteries. Eventually you will come across a row of little stones where a family of children, maybe five or six, have died within days or months of each other. Imagine having a house of children all die of the same disease within a short time of each other. This was diphtheria.
It will probably take an outbreak of something awful to shake this hysteria and complacency. Generally, I don't manage to convince hysterics. It's a level of emotion that cannot be touched by common sense.
I agree that the HPV vaccine deserves discussion and scrutiny. It is not the devastating illness that diphtheria is…but at least look at the science. Your kid may not be sexually promiscuous, but may end up married to someone who is.
