"American Sniper," the movie portraying the life of Navy SEAL and deadliest sniper in American history Chris Kyle, is on its way to being a $300 million dollar movie. The Warner Brothers film, directed by Clint Eastwood, has already shattered a number of box office records and is up for six Oscars. Over the weekend, the movie hit a new record, raking in more money on Super Bowl weekend than any other movie in history.
American Sniper is nearing the $250 million mark, picking up $31.8 million to set a new Super Bowl weekend record.
The previous high-water mark for footballs big weekend, was Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour, which picked up $31.2 million when it premiered in 2008.
If it continues on this torrid clip, Clint Eastwoods biopic of Chris Kyle could challenge The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1? as the highest grossing 2014 release and will pass The Matrix Reloaded to become the second biggest R-rated release in history. Its earned $248.9 million — an unbelievable result for an adult drama about such hard-hitting topics as war and its psychological effects.
American Sniper dwarfed all challengers for the third consecutive weekend. Family film Paddington managed to carve out a niche for itself, earning $8.7 million and pushing its domestic total past the $50 million mark.
The movie is now being played internationally.
Glad to see it. It’s a double bonus to tweak the libs.
I guess takes Kris Kyle from 160 to 161.
As the left goes nuts about it..............
Thus insuring it won’t win the Academy Award.
Good deal! I think I’ll wait for the DVD ... :-) ...
It feels good to see leftists heads explode for a change because they’ve been shoveling their bs on us for 6 years now..
Take that, Jesse Ventura.

Good. Americans NEED to be seen as fierce to our enemies...though I doubt they’ll be allowed to view it.
0bama has done SO much damage to our military it’s galling!
Once it wins an Oscar every FReeper must ask that their local library have a screening.
Thus insuring it wont win the Academy Award.
The ballots went out way before the movie hit the theaters in a huge fashion. Boyhood will win. I saw both and Boyhood probably deserves the win because it was shot over 12 years and had some amazing scenes. I definitely love American Sniper but it was too late to have a chance as the voting was practically done before it was released...remember it has only had wide release for 3 weeks.
See my number 11.
Betcha even a ‘Super Bowl weekend’ record in its own right.
Take that michael moore and ventura!
Yessssssss
I pray that you are wrong
I’m sure studio heads are wringing their hands trying to get a sequel out of this. Of course it would be called American Sniper 2: Electric Boogaloo.
I want to see it again, maybe this weekend and I want the DVD too
Meanwhile, Selma has sunk to #11, having taken in about $43M since release.
