North America has an enormous interest in building diplomatic relationships with Cuba, Secretary of State John Kerry said Saturday during a weekend meeting with his counterparts from Canada and Mexico.
This is an effort we believe offers the best opportunity for the people of Cuba to improve their lives and to take part in the choices about their lives, Kerry said during a news conference at Bostons Faneuil Hall.
A high-level U.S. delegation held two days of talks with Cuban officials in Havana last week for the first time in decades.
In December, President Barack Obama announced plans to restore diplomatic relations with the Caribbean island nation after more than 50 years.

Or Reggie is out sick.
idiots like Kerry actually believe Cuba would be the perfect utopia if it weren’t for the phony embargo.
This com symp evil POS and his fellow traveler imbeciles at the State Department will finally be neutralized in 2 years max.
A Right wing controlled DOJ and FBI looks to be a real problem for Kerry and the Clinton mafia, which is why she is running.
Harass, hound, indict, and incarcerate the leftists.
Yeah, sure. Especially after Raul went on record ducting the terms. Suckers. How did you electing a guy like obama would turn out??
Is it just me, or does he use “enormous” a lot?
Three syllable words (like “enormous”) are always more impressive that single syllable words (like “great”), especially when spoken with a perfect Yale-bred Chatsworth Osborne Jr. inflection.
Parts for their ‘51 Chevys ?
The USGS says there is a lot of oil in the North Cuban Basin but that is off limits to US oil companies and refiners. So what we see is oil companies from nations such as Brazil, Malaysia, Viet Nam, China, Spain, and others making attempts to develop that.
Similarly, US ag producers are keenly interested in exporting to Cuba. There are work-arounds that allow some exports but they want it opened up.
The only reason the embargo is still in place is the political advantage to the GOP, and that advantage is shrinking or tipping. And many democrats, especially Obama, think that advantage will soon be a liability, which is why he is pursuing this.
I know one thing for sure. Florida is the pivot point in presidential elections and if the GOP candidate can't win Florida, he can't win the presidency.
Really? Any worthwhile economically viable project could have been initiated through Canada anytime during the embargo. The fact is that the lack of respect for property rights, corruption, inherent poverty and byzantine administration have made Cuba unfit for major investment or commerce. Virtually nothing has changed. Obama simply made it easier for the Castro thugs to get more credit by gullible banks.
You also need to understand that Jeb Bush will get the GOP nomination in 2016 because he has the best chance of winning Florida.
Though with a lot truth contained, the above is not fully true.
I worked for years for Dutch company, responsible for sales in the USA, Caribbean and Mexico.
I had a counterpart responsible for sales in Canada and Cuba.
There is bauxite in Cuba, which was a significant market for using our equipment. The Dutch company had no issues in dealing with Cuba. I, of course, was precluded from participating.
The European Union has no problem dealing with tyrants and terrorists. Remember that their “big” countries also deal directly with Iran.
You liberals are always about the Mammon, huh.
Kerry, Canada and Mexico been trading with Cuba. They didn’t need our approval to trade. A few years ago, I was in Montreal, and I had a Cuban cigar..ho him.. nothing to get excited about IMHO.
the only reason for the ambargo is to prevent arming and enriching terrorists who have their boots on people’s necks in Cuba.
The GOP has nothing to do with it, heck they probably are closet communists themselves who only milk this cow,
There is no little Bush worshiper protesting for. bush i. the streets, repeat after me, but there is plenty of little Obamas willing to murder for Obama and Castro indeed, and that is the saliency of the “political advantage” game you talk about: ie there is none for the GOP.
The final point is we are not developing Canada, because we fuck the Keystone pipeline and ANWAR. But we are all too happy to plot “political short term advantage” for Cuba relations, illegals relations etc..
Just like there is nothing to get excited in smoking a cigar you precisely underpay because it is made with slave labor, we get it.
frankly, it is not a bad model. Let the Euros milk out Cuba while the Us makes sure the Cubans do not steal their assets, as in trust and verify. That is how it ahould be plaid out.
The only reason the Chinese or what. not are not developing Cuba is for the same reasons they hate develop Africa: it is an updront dragging investment they do not want to make,
The communists want the capitalists to invest, to dirt their hands in labor negociations, and then take it all for themselves in revolution..
What part of stupid party have we not understood in our greed to this honey trap?
WTH? I get my cigars from a Ybor cigar store that makes them in the window. Everyone is talking about Cuban cigars, but it’s overrated IMHO.
