Marijuana is shaping up to be the new gay marriage of GOP politics most Republicans would rather not talk about it, except to punt to the states. But when it comes to the 2016 presidential race, a series of legalization ballot initiatives and a certain outspoken Kentucky senator could make it harder for the Republican field to avoid the conversation.

We all believe it is up to the states to decide; however, Federal Judges are deciding.
What are our elected leaders doing about that?
The Jihad on drugs is not limited to one of the “two” parties.
Polly Tishuns will eventually have to follow the will of the people.
And that is for freedom.
Well on homosexual marriage our leaders are doing nothing. They are just letting the courts impose homosexual marriage as some sort of civil right, so that there is no legislative way to stop it,,short of a constitutional amendment.
On marijuana, I expect court cases could arise, due to federal law making it illegal but some states making it legal. Will judges similarly say you have a civil right to use pot??? We will see.
However ...
If the GOP came out and said that had a three part strategy:
1) Abolish the IRS and replace it with a Fair Tax
2) Further diminish the oppressive power of the government by SERIOUSLY cutting budgets and trimming social spending
3) Taking a very liberal view on illegal drugs
I think that would be hugely popular.
If people mess up their lives with drugs, they should be on their own. The nanny state might (possibly) have sufficient resources to care for widows and orphans, but people who can't hold a job because they like to get high? Let them die in an alley. It's none of my business.
We no longer have an American culture (which was Christian). All we can do is pray for revival and stop voting for men who refuse to acknowledge the problem.
So, it's time to elect a Christian president. Vote for Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
You got it. On homosexual marriage, our elected leaders are cowards. Too many skeletons in their own closets.
I understand legalizing pot on libertarian grounds and if it was combined with other attitudes, such as eliminating much of the welfare state, I would consider favoring it.
Legal or illegal, one thing will always remain true, though. You cannot build and sustain a republic with druggies as your citizenry. If it is legal, but people are essentially moral and don’t need a law, its one thing. If people need a law to tell them its immoral, we’ve already got a problem. And, in fact, we have a big problem.
Politico stirring up the pot again.
They never write how issues can affect the Rat party. Nope, it’s always Republicans affected by issues mostly crafted by narratives written by the Rats.
I don’t care what u smoke, just live with the consequences yourself and don’t make others pay when u f@@@ up your life
The greatest fear the Liberals have is that there will be too many people in this world. Smoking pot reduces the sex drive. Liberals love pot.
Druggies get to vote also, and they want welfare, so they get to vote for welfare.
+1
Will the GOP EVER get off their ass and DO something?
They just react, while the American-way-of-life drains down the toilet bowl.
Marijuana control is to the GOP what gun control is to the dimocrats; a losing proposition. The ground is shifting under our feet and fewer and fewer people support the idea of spending tax dollars to stop a weed.
I'm not so sure about that. Are you speaking from experience?
