The Romney Statement: Not Running. "I’ve decided it is best to give other leaders in the Party...."
hughhewitt.com ^ | 01/30/2015 | Hugh Hewitt

I’ve been emailed this text of remarks Mitt Romney will be making to his supporters shortly:

Let me begin by letting you know who else is on this call, besides Ann and me. There are a large number of people who signed on to be leaders of our 2016 finance effort. In addition, state political leadership from several of the early primary states are on the line. And here in New York City, and on the phone, are people who have been helping me think through how to build a new team, as well as supporters from the past who have all been kind enough to volunteer their time during this deliberation stage. Welcome, and thank you. Your loyalty and friendship, and your desire to see the country with new, competent and conservative leadership warms my heart.

After putting considerable thought into making another run for president, I’ve decided it is best to give other leaders in the Party the opportunity to become our next nominee.

We need Chris Christie to get in to nullify and split the jeb liberal voters.

You can count on that.

This is bad news. Christie's the last one left to steal RINO votes from Jeb.

” I’ve been reading murmurs about Scott Walker being squishy on illegal immigration, but that’s the first time I’ve seen a link to an article that verifies it. “

Last week, another FReeper had 8 red lines on Walker and amnesty. All damning. I wish to heck I had saved it. If I find it, I will repost it.I did my own bit of research. NOT good.

Personally I love Ted Cruz, but I think Walker is more viable and has a proven track record in getting the job done over the objections of liberals. He has stuck to his guns and pushed his agenda and won!

That is pretty much my thinking. I like Ted staying in the Senate doing all he can to keep it hot there. Huckabee is nothing but a spoiler - he might peel off a segment of SocCons (of which I am one). But he has no possibility of broad support. He's smarmy and has a funny name.

Looking more and more like Walker is the man of the hour.

The transcript of caller Todd the Cruz fan is really worth reading, we have the thread.

Hopefully those two other has-beens, Nanny Huckabee and King Jeb Bush III, get the message and drop out too.

According to the Fox News poll (watched Fox news at lunch) Mitt had highest %, Bush about 2 pts behind him, and Huckabee just one point behind Bush. Christie I believe was next highest.

I won't vote for anyone who's on board with throwing the doors open to a third world invasion of our country.

What this country actually needs, is a twenty-five year moratorium on ALL immigration. We've already got tens of millions here who haven't assimilated, and who are busy creating foreign countries within our midst

Well said and my sentiments exactly. If the GOP nominates a pro-amnesty candidate, they will lose the votes of millions of conservatives who want something done about the Third World invasion of the US. And if that leads them to lose the election, perhaps that will finally teach the establishment a lesson against running candidates who are echo chambers for the Democrats, on the flimsy grounds that conservatives are supposed to give away their votes to "the lesser evil."

‘I haven’t endorsed anyone, Folks’

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3252008/posts

RUSH: Here’s Josh in Decatur, Alabama. Josh, we’re not gonna get you all in in this segment. We’re gonna get you started though. What’s up?

CALLER: Hey, Rush, it’s really a pleasure. I’ve been listening to you for 15 years.

RUSH: Great to have you with us, my buddy, how are you?

CALLER: You’re the man, and I know you said you didn’t endorse him, quote, unquote, but you’ve all but endorsed Walker. And I just gotta ask, I’m in the tank for Cruz. I told Snerdley I’m a Cruz seminar caller, but what about Walker on Common Core and amnesty?

RUSH: Yes.

CALLER: What’s your take on that? Because he’s squishy about that........ Is it the governor thing? Is that what it is?

True conservatives need to take note and emulate.

Coalesce around one, MAYBE two, by the end of the year. By the end of January 2016, that list should be narrowed to ONE to challenge the GOPe selectee.

That ONE should not be some unknown quantity like Carson. The next president will have too much clean-up his first term, so the last thing we need is another Obama-type OJT president.

I’m in complete agreement with you.. There are large chunks of Los Angeles which have become a 3rd world hell hole, with NO English spoken at all. We are talking of MILLIONS of illegals, not 50-100,000 here and there.

Don’t give up on Walker. We need to pin him down on his priorities regarding ILLEGAL immigration...

1. Control the border. We have to stop this flood of illegals.
2. Enforce existing immigration laws.
3. Reinstitute guest worker visas with enforced return to home country for seasonal/temporary work that Americans cannot be found to do.
4. Then, and only then, open discussions on how to deal with illegal aliens already living here.

Walker has proven abilities to govern conservatively in a hostile place like red-state Wisconsin.

Facts don’t lie!!

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-politics/wp/2013/07/03/scott-walker-backs-path-to-citizenship-increased-immigration/

http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/scott-walker-asks-mexico-to-open-consulate-in-wisconsin-b99120688z1-227850711.html

“It’s all is about the 11 million [undocumented immigrants],” Walker said. “You hear some people talk about border security and a wall and all that. To me, I don’t know that you need any of that if you had a better, saner way to let people into the country in the first place.”

Walker added: “If people want to come here and work hard in this country, I don’t care if you come from Mexico or Canada or Ireland or Germany or South Africa or anywhere else. I want them here.”

Walker’s looking pretty good too

Seeing a lot of folks saying Walker is a non starter because of amnesty position. My thought is that maybe we can get a pledge that if we can get a decent bill through the Congress, then he will sign it? I just cannot see the possibility that common sense returns and we enforce existing laws. Something will be run up the flagpole. Let's make it as tough as possible.

Will take another House and Senate cleaning in 2016. I like keeping Cruz in the Senate to keep an eye on McConnell and McCain and Hatch and all their ilk.

From the same thread:

No, but he has asked the Mexican government to establish a consulate in the state.

http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/scott-walker-asks-mexico-to-open-consulate-in-wisconsin-b99120688z1-227850711.html

An interesting little tidbit from the article:
“Walker pointed out in his letters that Mexico is the second-largest export market for the state with $2.2 billion in products sent to Mexico.

For the last 23 years the state also has had a sister state relationship with the Mexican state of Jalisco, he said.”

There is pressure from both the Chamber of Commerce in WI and the farmers who employ Mexicans. Being that Walker is mainly focused on fiscal issues I think his comment about Mexico being the second largest export market for WI is interesting.

Walker has been all over the map with his statements about immigration and the border issue. Enough to make me nervous about him.

Oh, wow! Even if he’s walked it back, that greatly diminishes Walker’s reliability factor. Amnesty pimps need not apply!!

Thanks for the ping, Jim, and I agree 100%. The other thing the Limbaugh caller reported yesterday is that Walker supports Common Core. I wasn't previously aware of Walker's squishy amnesty agenda, but have now seen substantiated sources on FreeRepublic (thank God for FR!).

I'm still looking for verification that Walker supports Common Core. If anyone can provide sources for that it would be MUCH appreciated. I know people who have heretofore been leaning towards Cruz for the nominee, but this latest rush of love for Walker by both Rush and Hannity has persuaded them to think Walker might have the better chance.

If Walker is not only an amnesty pimp, but a Common Core pimp, we need sources for both of these things so we can argue these points loudly and with facts.

Too bad American political whores, and farmer whores(who also vote Democrat), have let things degenerate so far that they feel the need to suck up to illegal immigrants. NOT my problem, it’s Walkers problem, and he can’t be trusted, period.

As they say look up the quotes, Walker said nothing about “citizenship” and Walker said so, this has to be ironed out but no, he has clarified what he said. Sounded like the same “residency” deal others have said.
