Washington (CNN)Ohio Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan fully reversed his anti-abortion position and came out as pro-choice in an op-ed published on Tuesday.
"I have come a long way since being a single, 26-year-old state senator, and I am not afraid to say that my position has evolved as my experiences have broadened, deepened and become more personal," Ryan wrote in the Akron Beacon Journal.
"I have come to believe that we must trust women and families not politicians to make the best decision for their lives," he said.
After running for Congress on a pro-life platform in 2002 and initially voting with Republicans on the issue, Ryan, who is Catholic, has shifted leftward on abortion. In recent years, he's drawn criticism from pro-life activists that once supported him for voting to protect public funding for Planned Parenthood and access to contraception.
Ryan wrote in the op-ed that his shift was inspired by conversations with women during his political career, but the move also puts him in a better position politically as he contemplates a potential 2016 challenge to Sen. Rob Portman, a Republican.

There is no such thing as a pro-life democrat. Bart Stupak proved this. No one should be surprised by this.
That was my question too.
Reading his entire argument, he is essentially saying that he WAS pro-life, but then he heard all these specific stories about women who were suffering, and decided that THESE women deserved to have abortions.
In other words, he is the odd bird who doesn’t believe abortion is murder, he just wanted to deny women that right when he thought they were just sluts, but now that he knows how much they are suffering, has decided they “earned” it.
It is usually democrats who actually want to oppress women.
In America, all our constitutional protections rest on the Founders' premise that all human beings are "endowed by their Creator" with rights to both life and the liberty to "pursue happiness." That is the sole reason those rights are deemed unalienable--because they are derived, not from another human being, not from a government, not even from the mother, but from God.
"The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time: the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them." - Thomas Jefferson
That understanding underlies every other consideration embodied in our Declaration of Independence and Constitution. It is the very basis of our rights to life, liberty, and laws to protect them.
Rep. Tim Ryan’s Chief of Staff: Congressman, what do you want us to do about the abortion bill?
Rep. Tim Ryan: Just pay it.
(joke used to work well using Bill Clinton too)
Trust women and families???.....Anyone who would murder their own child certainly is not in any way to be trusted!!!
He is now a political whore with the blood of 57 million slaughtered, unborn and newly born Americans. I hope he’s proud of himself. What a POS!
Another “evolving” DemocRAT. It won’t be long before the boy is swingin’ through the trees with the best of ‘em.
I was not aware that Ryan ever was/claimed to be pro-life.
How many in the House really are? Lipinski? Peterson?
I now believe in killing the most innocent among us because the devil has infested my soul, says the man.
No further explanation is necessary.
Tim Ryan claimed to be pro-life when he first ran for Congress, and voted generally pro-life for the first year or two, but voted for embryonic stem-cell research (the gateway drug of abortionism) and has voted almost exclusively pro-abortion ever since.
A dozen years ago there were several dozen House Democrats that generally voted pro-life (and even 5 years ago there were iver a dozen), but now the House is down to Collin Peterson, Dan Lipinski and maybe Henry Cuellar (the latter votes pro-life more often than not, but not consistently so). A few other House Democrats cast pro-life votes occasionally, such as Stephen Lynch and Marcie Kaptur.
For Democrats murder is a badge of honor if it can get a few more votes. Bell Book and Candle time.
Which explains the Democraps position on Obamacare how? "You decide about abortions, we'll decide everything else for you."
A Democrat
