Pope mulls crossing U.S.-Mexico border to show solidarity with immigrants

The U.S.-Mexico border may someday see a high-profile crosser – Pope Francis.

The intrepid pontiff raised the possibility that among his future trips could be entering the U.S. border from Mexico.

The pope, who made the comment while flying back recently from the Philippines, said he would do it to show solidarity with immigrants, according to the Latin Post.

"To enter the U.S. from the Mexico border would be a beautiful sign of brotherhood and help for immigrants," the pope said, according to the Post and other outlets.

There are some logistical factors, however, that the pope indicated he would have to address. "To go to Mexico without visiting the Virgin (of Guadalupe) would be a drama. A war would break out, and there is no time," Francis quipped.

No problem. Don’t let the idiot back in if he’s that stupid.

Yes he does talk about Scripture, but there's none of that in the secular media. You'd have to venture into the Catholic news areas.

But I understand your point, and as a devout Catholic, I'd prefer he stay out of our legal business.

The church needs to be the CHURCH; that is, it’s job is to represent and preach the gospel, and not surrender itself to every current political wind.

It’s job is not even to end poverty (repeat that three times).

It’s job is separate, and greater, than any social or political scheme.

It needs to do that job (somebody has to do it), and not try and be the handmaid of every political program or action.

This pope sucks.

As a life-long Catholic, I totally agree. He's an absolute embarrassment. He needs to be gone yesterday.

The same. As a Catholic I am comforted by the fact that Popes come and go. Some are good, some are bad, some are incredibly stupid. But I wouldn’t be a good Catholic if I allowed Pope Francis’ shenanigans to shake my faith.

That being said, if he really wants to show the world the power of faith and the necessity of exhibiting social justice then he should go to Raqqa and meet with Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and chastise ISIS and Islam for their brutal inhumanity. President el-Sisi of Egypt did it, why can’t he?

He's a loose cannon. His press secretary needs to talk to him.

I agree. I’m won’t be shaken out either.
The leftists the Pope hangs out with would put the Church in chains. Leftists are tyrants. They spout social justice but what they really mean is all is controlled by the state(themselves).

What about those who did NOT jump the line to legally immigrate to the USA?

Concur. His ring can't go under the hammer soon enough to suit me.

So I guess he won’t mind if we sneak into the Vatican and declare that it is now OUR property under the flag of Aztlan, right?

How can anyone still defend this character?

There is a herd of religious forum FReepers who have been doing just that, defending him, from as far back as his election. Many of us have been bucking the tide, sounding the alarm about him. With every passing day, we are being vindicated. I wonder how how long before our resident Pope supporters step in in defense of his Marxism. One would have to blind not to see this man is a flat out Marxist.

The most damaging thing about this statement is its effect on American Catholics. Not the ones on Free Republic, but the rest of them. Bad enough that the bishops were promoting lawbreaking. Catholics’ regard for the pope is much greater.
