The flurries are getting furious. They should propose shutting down the mayors office for the next two years.

It’s tough to be a Vegan in the sub-arctic of a snow-pocalypse. Looking on the bright side, they’ll be fewer Lefties after the glaciers recede. ;-)

“I drink carrot juice (usually mixed in with V8) and my girlfriend likes kale and arugula - does that make us Marxists?”

No, but since you’re in Seattle and like cycling maybe you’re more of a Gramscian Hegemonist.

Don’t tell the lefty hipsters who waste their money at Whole Foods, but you can get kale at Kroger (or whatever Kroger is called in your part of the country — round my parts Kroger is called ‘Dillons’).

On the map it looked like Manhattan was in the “hit or miss” zone. Maybe it is a miss. Lucky for you.

You Miss Marmelstein are describing New Yorkers over 60. New Yorkers under 40 are all about farm to table. The latter also get their Italian from chefs named “Todd” and wouldn’t be caught dead reading the NY Post in anything other than an ironic manner? Have you spent any time with the Chelsea, let alone Williamsburg/Bushwick/LES hipster set?

Here in Canada it’s Loblaws- mass-market chain that has lines of “Green” and “Organic” for the more gullible among their patrons. We do have a Whole Foods in Yorkvile but most hipsters still go to Loblaws.

NYC has really bad grocers like Gristedes and D’Agostino. Fairway isn’t bad, but isn’t a supermarket in a traditional sense.

Kale is so dry that you really need to juice it with something else or lather it with some sort of dressing to make it edible.

I'm sorry but, yes, you are commie scum. Your subscription to Mother Jones and Utne Reader have been automatically entered. You are now on Van Jones' winter solstice holiday card list.

It is not a cause, it is an effect.

Well, I have an apartment at 25th and 2nd so I’m often in Chelsea because it has good shopping - at least when disgruntled employees are not shooting it out at Home Depot. I only go into Williamsburg to eat at a red sauce restaurant there - I’m still looking for the hipsters in that neighborhood since it always looks like a 19th century factory town gone wrong to me. The under 40s I know are generally too poor or middle class to be eating much at Eataly or hanging with the judges on Chopped.

What the heck is wrong with D’Agostino’s? It’s my supermarket on 2nd Avenue. Small but brilliantly stocked. Fairway, of course, is a great supermarket - I don’t even know what a “traditional” supermarket is. Bohack’s, maybe?

True. It’s not really juice per se. I throw a bunch of crap in the vitamix and it’s more of a veggie sludge. I have to add some water and ice to make it “juice”.

Take the L train to Bedford Avenue and walk in any direction. Hipster central, although “true” hipsters are moving to Bushwick due to (for now) lower rents.
