Snow is expected to begin falling just before sunrise on Monday before the serious blizzard kicks in late in the afternoon and through Tuesday morning’s rush, forecasters said.

Garbage and recycling will be suspended Monday and Tuesday so New York’s Strongest can put full efforts into clearing up to 36 inches of snow.

Power is going to go out and some elderly people are going to die. I don't see anything funny about this storm. Predicted wind gusts to 65mph will take out power.

I recall when Hurricane Sandy (think that is the name), went through up there and high rises in New York City had no power. An elderly lady living on the 20th floor had no water so had to walk down 20 flights of stairs to get water. I had plenty of stored water and wished I had been there to walk up those flights and give her plenty of water.

I'm sorry this is happening to these people.

77 or maybe 78 was a big storm. We moved to Vernon, NJ in August of 77 and got a shock with all the snow. lol

I think if it is snowing when I get up that I’m going to stay home. I have a terrible commute on a good day, very scary in the snow. I drove home during the snow on the Wed. before Thanksgiving, it was raining down by my house, but very snowy and bad by my office.

Those are good ideas. However, I remember a few years ago, Boston got hammered (I'm not think the blizzard if '78, this was just 5-10 years ago) and they had nowhere to put the snow. So, they started dumping it into Boston Harbor.

The EPA put a stop to that.

It's pollution if it's been on the ground in the city. You cannot dump such hazardous waste in the ocean.

If Buffalo had that kind of population the whole political structure of the State would flip. No longer would the downstate liberals be able to rape the upstate tax base to fund their socialist agenda. Buffalo, in that case, would have a snow removal force that would rival the size of the army of a medium size developed country.

Actually the snow gets dirtier. The rain quickly runs off into the sewers but the snow is pushed to the side of the street by the plows, picking up all the oil and other residue in the street. Then the exhaust fumes from the cars and taxis slowly blacken the piles of snow with soot. Not to mention people trudging through it, spitting on it, tossing chewing gum and other such things into the snow pile.

Boston dumped it in the harbor in 2011.

The 1978 N’Easter hit upstate and N.E. The hardest but Manhattan got clobbered. About 18-20” in 24hrs. I used my X-country skis to go to work. W72nd off CPW to Mad. Ave & 58th. Sweet skiing for 2 days. Plowed drifts on W72nd were over 8 feet high. Cars were stranded under them for more than a week, solid ice..wonderful quiet.

With 8,000,000 people in approx 300 square miles heavy snow can be a bit intrusive.

I doubt that OK has too many snow problems.
