A blow to the EU and Angela Merkel.

Sryiza gets 50 seats as the winning party and if it runs around 40 percent it may get 100 of the 250 apportioned seats.

They may get close to or over the 151 seat

I wonder if the people who pushed the EU for decades were smart enough to anticipate that deadbeat governments would overspend, send the bill to the EU, and then - when the EU decided it couldn’t pay anymore - turn their populations against the EU (the big, mean, distant authoritarian father figure) and all start yelling FU EU! at the top of their voices.

I mean, they were all so much smarter than everyone else, right? They must have seen this coming.

The Greeks just voted themselves more money. What could go wrong?

Not really a surprise.

The EU’s austerity policies were always unpopular in Greece.

The vote is really a blow to Brussels’ EUSSR dreams.

Those died tonight in Athens.

The Greeks have become accustomed to a EU life style made possible by massive loans and direct subsidies. The simply do not create the wealth that justifies that standard of living. When they repeat the Argentine debacle and default on their loans, reality will begin to dawn on them even the most delusional. Within two years there will be massive emigration of their brightest and best, an aging population, they will sell their heritage art and even the sovereign rights of islands to rich buyers. Socialism fails.

Only a matter of time before Greece becomes a Russian colony.

The party of austerity usually loses, despite that it is the only solution.

The party of letting the good times roll wins.

Until the disaster.

Expect more of the same here in 2016, but we get to print money. Greece does not.

As I asked on another thread: why are the Greeks so radically left wing? Why have they been so for so long?

Whatever happened to the anti-Communists of '47-'48 and the supporters of Papadopoulos?

First, what austerity in Greece? Has anybody seen their budget cut? Look at the numbers.

Second, good. Let the Greeks bury themselves in communism. Their glorious past is ancient history. The entire country is a welfare queen.

i could be way off here , but:
greece’s economy is about the size of new jersey’s - if that.
the greeks lost about half of their purchasing power when they left the drachma.
the germans brutalized them in ww2.
staying in the euro means higher taxes.
why would anyone not want to leave?
ahy does the eu really care?

The Greek elites demonized the Greek National Socialist New Dawn Party, so they are left with the Left, international socialist Syriza Party. Can’t have nations anymore, doncha know.

You can NOT spend your way out of debt.

And calling me a racist isn’t going to change that.
