Exit polls suggest a historic victory for the anti-austerity Syriza party in Greece's closely fought general election.

One poll suggested Syriza took 35.5% of the votes, and the other suggested it took 39.5%, well ahead of ruling New Democracy party on 23%-27%.

It is unclear whether Syriza has enough votes to govern the country alone.

Syriza's Alexis Tsipras has pledged to renegotiate Greece's debt arrangement with international creditors....

That’s something to think about and its true that’s what Greece got into, but the EU and the New World Order is wrong and I fully support its repudiation.

Bills do need to be paid, but there should be no regional-world government tyranny over nations.

European “austerity” includes massive tax increases (which are counter-productive)

Sounds good to me.

Bills do need to be paid,

And that's alway been the problem with Greece.

but there should be no regional-world government tyranny over nations.

Germany can't make the Greeks cut their spending or pay their bills, but if they don't listen, the Greeks can't force the Germans to keep sending more money either.

“European “austerity” includes massive tax increases (which are counter-productive)”

But in the case of Greece, they have no money so the “tax increases” would necessarily come from the other EU countries would the not? Greece has no wealth left to tax, but you are right they are completely counterproductive. Their “1%” can’t pony up the 40% of all taxes that they do here. Greece has succeeded in running out of other people’s money!

And EU needs to be separated out into its constituent nations once again. Perhaps singly some of them will deal rationally with their Moslem invasions.

I think that would be the best solution. I never understood why so many people claim they want self determination, split up the country they currently belong to only to rush into the arms of the despotic EU.

i could be way off here , but:
greece’s economy is about the size of new jersey’s - if that.
the greeks lost about half of their purchasing power when they left the drachma.
the germans brutalized them in ww2.
staying in the euro means higher taxes.
why would anyone not want to leave?
ahy does the eu really care?

I saw an interview with a Syriza guy who hoped they won, of course, but not enough to quite control, so they would have a way out of their promise. They’re running a Clintonesque campaign, sounds great, ain’t gonna happen, cause they know they’re out of business all the way if they backslide on gummint spending.

At the very least, we are about to witness another example of the failure of both communism and democracy by the creators of democracy themselves!

Do today’s Greeks bare any resemblance DNA-wise of those Greeks who established Democracy?

I don’t know, DNA testing could show. In all probability, yes, they are the same people.

I think today’s Greeks are mostly of Slavic genetic origin.

I hope they won outright so they own it lock stock and barrel.

One of their great ideas for spurring the economy is to outlaw all-inclusive resorts, so vacationers would have to go outside for food and entertainment... as if the people working in those resorts are not Greeks. The stupidity and arrogance of the left has no bounds.

I agree there is no hope for at least the vast majority of dedicated leftists. Although actions later in their lives by those rare 'former' dedicated leftists, Tom Sowell and David Horowitz suggests that the rare exceptions may become important way out of proportion to their numbers. Don't *completely* ignore the possibility of converting leftists, but generally treat them them as the vermin they are. Reducing their habitat (faculty lounges, etc.) is probably more effective than squishing individual cockroaches, no matter how satisfying the latter may be.

But my main target is not the dedicated leftists, but the vast numbers of those who aren't dedicated to much of anything politically, because they seldom pay attention, whom the dedicated leftists love to scare into voting for their side. This bunch of Greek lefties offers a clearer than usual opportunity if which their likely spectacular failure could be used to scare our normally mindless middle into voting against the left. Some of them may even pay enough attention to wake up and vote for us, not just against the left. History shows such are also valuable beyond their numbers. We shouldn't be politically correct and squander that opportunity.

You could certainly establish a DNA line to the current batch of geniuses but remember it’s pretty well documented that a major source of the original failure was inbreeding among the hoypaloy. They went nuts. The question would be whether 2500 years has been enough time to breed out the effects of the original mother/son/daughter/sister/kuzzin kissin’? I’m guessing not for the simple reason that there’s no one left there that can fix the friggin roof on the Pantheon or anything else that they used to be proud of.

Does that apply to nations as well? Especially nations that used to be anti-Communist and claim to have invented "western civilization?"

A "nation" is a type of "organization."

I think that post was intended for me.

The Greek elites demonized the Greek National Socialist New Dawn Party, so they are left with the Left, international socialist Syriza Party. Can’t have nations anymore, doncha know.
