Russia may lift its ban on food imports from Greece in the event it quits the European Union, Russian Minister of Agriculture Nikolai Fyodorov told a news conference in Berlin on Friday. Fyodorov is leading an official Russian delegation to the International Green Week public exhibition for the food, agriculture, and gardening industry. “If Greece has to leave the European Union, we will build our own relations with it, the food ban will not be applicable to it,” he said. He said that European Union countries, which felt discomfort from the slump in proceeds from exports of foods to Russia, were asking Russia to cushion the impacts of the Russian food import ban by expanding other types of imports. “We are looking at such possibility,” he said, adding that these countries offer new formats of cooperation in those areas that are not covered by the Russian food sanctions.

Greece was a basket case before it entered the EU.
It is still a basket case. I am sure Russia’s interest in help Greece is based on pure altruism. /sarc.
I agree...it’s to split up the EU - hold out goodies for states that leave. Smart move on their part.

It’s brilliant. And if it works, expect more...such as reduced energy prices for friendly countries, etc.
Russia does not really wield that great economic power. They don’t really have that much to offer.
I think they are targeting Greece, because (sorry for saying it) Greek voters are extremely stupid and they are likely going to elect a stupid far-left party to power in Greek elections, that happen to be in 25th January.
That would end up in a total catastrophe for Greece, but their voters are the ones who might just be stupid enough to do it to themselves.

Meanwhile the CHINESE were growing like GANGBUSTERS, the Third World was finally able to feed itself and is now growing quickly (just count the number of air conditioners on a street in Egypt) and needless to say, Islam is on a rampage. And now, Russia is rapidly MODERNIZING their entire military with some weapons that we not only cannot defend against, but don’t even have anything on the drawing board that will ever being able to stop them (S-400 missile comes to mind)
SICKENING - it seems that as if we figured that if we disarmed, the rest of the world would simply join us.
The European Left's candidate for the European Commission presidency, Alexis Tsipras, Friday called for the immediate release of Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams who is been held for questioning in connection with the 1972 murder of Jean McConville. Tsipras called the arrest a "politically inflammatory act against democracy".
