A group of former McDonald's workers is suing the fast-food giant in the United States for alleged racial discrimination and sexual harassment after they were fired from several restaurants in Virginia.
According to the civil rights complaint filed Thursday, workers at franchised restaurants in the southern state of Virginia were "subjected to rampant racial and sexual harassment, committed by the restaurants' highest-ranking supervisors." The lawsuit potentially has broad implications because it contends that McDonald's is responsible for the well-being of workers at all its restaurants, even if they are franchises.
The plaintiffs, nine of whom are black and one Hispanic, allege they were fired because the restaurant, operated by a company called Soweva, wanted to "reduce the number of African-American employees and hire more white employees," the lawsuit states.
"Soweva's supervisors were blunt, telling employees that it was 'too dark' in the restaurants, and that they were going to hire different workers because they 'need to get the ghetto out of the store,'" the complaint adds.
Supervisors repeatedly complained "there are too many black people in the store," the lawsuit alleges.

I was just trying to recall that campaign, “365/black” or something like that?
THIS is why we need smaller government. And guns.
My McDonald’s is about 90% Hispanic and I don’t have any problems with the food or the service. In fact, most fast-food places around here now have about 90% Hispanic employees.
McDonalds went on a “just black tummies matter” advertising campaign not so long ago. It was blatantly racial. I think they were hiring mostly black, too.
I can't stand the: i'm lovin' it slogan either. It seems as if proper spelling and punctuation were not in the equation when it was authored.
excellent!
Marylanders actually get peed off when a person points out that slavery was legal in Maryland, which is below the Mason-Dixon line.
my comment is “show me the tapes”
it’s been years since I went to mcd’s.
Translation: They wanted us to do our jobs.
Hey, sounds like the supervisors were just trying to embrace diversity. I thought that was supposed to be a good thing.
I wonder if one of them was a worker in Emporia on I-95.
I was flying down I-95 and pulled into the McD’s for a large tea and three double cheese burgers.
Went through the drive through, got the order and hit the highway.
About 10 miles down the highway I opened the bag and found 2 single cheese burgers - and I had been the only car near the drive through.
And they want $15 an hour?
I went to a Chick Fil A last month.
It was the antithesis of the McDonald's experience.
The staff were beyond friendly, the place was spotless, and Christian music was playing over the speaker in the dining area! You almost NEVER find that in a business today.
Supervisors repeatedly complained “there are too many black people in the store,” the lawsuit alleges.
correction - “too many black people FIGHTING in the store, DESTROYING THINGS in the store,”....
Customers may be afraid of someone spitting on their food.
I don’t trust any fast-food franchise places, and even many mom-and-pop types, anymore, after reading some site where the actual employees boasted of what they did to the food in the back. The one about what they did to the vats of KFC’s coleslaw was especially disgusting. I’ve also never been able to forget, ever since I first heard of it years ago, Jesse Jackscum’s boast of spitting in white people’s food while smiling in their faces. And in connection with the recent “activism” of interrupting white people’s brunches, there were some Twitter threats by self-described black restaurant employees to spit in the food of whites.
On the whole, I’d rather make my own, or go to local places where the owners have been part of the local community for eons, and are still in the same hands/family.
Doesn’t this just seem for most urban blacks, to be the default “solution” to everything that bothers them?
i went to a McDonalds in spartanburg several times. they had the ten commandments posted over the drink machines
Exactly the store owner is black and is just trying to run his business as he deems necessary.
