BALTIMORE (WJZ) — A health warning. The extremely contagious measles virus is back. An outbreak that started at Disneyland is starting to sweep the country.
Christie Ileto has the push for children to get vaccinated.
Measles was thought to have been eliminated in the U.S. 15 years ago. Now its back, targeting those who haven’t been immunized.
The outbreak that started in California’s Disneyland is expanding. At least 75 cases of measles span six states.
“It’s scary to think the happiest place on Earth is infected with measles,” one Disney employee said.
For this Disney employee, knowing co-workers are infected is cause for concern.
Measles has a 21-day incubation period, meaning people can travel far before they know they’re sick.
“We’re seeing the resurgence of measles because a lot of the parents are not getting their children vaccinated,” said Dr. Peter Andrews, Sinai Hospital.
Dr. Andrews says that problem is prime. In Maryland, all students K-12 must get two shots of the measles vaccine.
“It just didn’t make sense to me,” said one Annapolis mom.
In a revealing interview with WJZ, an Annapolis mom explained why she didn’t vaccinate her kids.
“I didn’t understand why a little human had to get so many drugs at one time,” she said.
Still, the vaccine proves very effective if given at two doses.
Doctors say the virus is highly contagious. For instance, if someone has the measles and doesn’t cover their mouth when they sneeze, they can pass it on to anyone standing nearby.
Symptoms like fever, cough and rash soon follow.
“The younger, the older, the immune compromised. Those are the three target areas that really can get sick and die,” said Dr. Andrews.
Most people who have already had the measles or got the vaccine are not at risk.

I trust numbers from researches from the World Bank or WHO more than I do those from folks simply assuming a statistic on the internet.

“Measles still needs a source. It won’t arise from nowhere. You need a carrier. If there’s no paper trail to connect the source it probably moved “in the shadows”.”
That is absolutely besides the point.
Instead, there are Americans who chose not to vaccinate their kids against measles and when they get the Measles, they depend on the government treat their kids for Measles.
Vaccinate and this will not be a problem.

most certainly they are not, but from poorer latin american countries.
Innocent children certainly do not “deserve what they get.”
That was not to that specific post and in the post where “your” was used was intended to mean everyone as in “Keep Your Powder Dry” or “Educate your children.”
show me on one bottle where vaccines guarantee 100% immunity.
show me where nobody ever gets damaged or killed by vaccines.
if they are so safe why has congress bent over to give the big pharma drug makers immunity if their vaccines rushed to production kill or permanently harm people?
All nations in Central and South America have vaccination rates above 89%.
I’ve worked in Mexico and Nicaragua in health care. These countries do a very good job when it comes to vaccinating kids. They have limited health care resources so they concentrate them where they can do the most good and number one on this list is vaccination, the most cost-beneficial medical procedure you can name. And they have no patience for the kind of excuses anti-vax parents give here.

And I will concede your point that innocent children absolutely do not deserve what they get as a result of adult neglect (”wouldn’t/didn’t”)...the child has no say in the matter.

Where are you on people being able to decide for themselves what they will and won’t do for their own personal medical health.
I don’t have the right to force you to do something to your body you don’t want to and vice versa.
