And its the second-smallest State of the Union audience since Nielsen started collecting the data in 1993. Only Bill Clintons 2000 speech drew a smaller television audience than Mr. Obamas this year, with about 31.5 million views. In addition, a number of websites and media outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, offered their own streams of the speechincreasing the total number of viewers well beyond the television audience.
But the lower audience share is part of a broader decline in interest in the speech.

It’s morphed into a cult like parade of propaganda like some twisted political academy awards extravaganza.
Obama’s doesn’t give State of the Union speeches he gives a dose of Utopia for socialists.
BO seems to have a perfect logarithmic decline.
Nice to hear.
On every channel and that’s the best they can do? Wonder how bad it would be if the networks weren’t “encouraged” to carry the muzzie in chief.
Well.......There WAS a basketball game on......
This only proves that the American majority does not take the SOTU speech seriously anymore. Unchallenged, outright lies and fake plants have become too commonplace over the last 6 years.
I suppose that when people know that all they are going to hear is the same worn out garbage that we have heard every year from Obama the interest in hearing it is gone. Personally I wouldn’t waste my time if I was paid to listen to it.
It does seem that way. For the math inclined, his declining numbers are like his speeches: monotonic.
What are you talking about?
I only see dogs [t]here — it needs some ponies in order to be a dog and pony show! Right?
But, you dont understand, its for the greater good.
You should have, they were great, had to hold the record for most & longest standing O’s ever.
The dems hated it, it was delicious to witness.
I can’t even look at Barc Olounger, and the SOTU is ulcer inducing under the best of circumstances.
I agree with you totally. Just watching that garbage makes me puke.

Den of Extortionist and Enronites.
That’s why they Exempted themselves.
And the Extortionists and Enronites are at it in the Euro as we speak, to the tune of 50 Billion per month of bond buying.
And as here, no structural changes equals high prices and business shutdowns and high unemployment. Exempt public bailout once again.
Thanks. It’s bittersweet to see how far we’ve fallen and how hard it will be to get back to where we were.
“Okay, but the response she gave was horrible.”
My wife and I enjoyed her speech and disagree with your assessment. Republicans do not know the specifics of what Obama is going to say. All they know is that he will be lying about... everything. This makes it makes it nearly impossible to come up with a detailed response on such short notice.
Sen. Ernst is a genuine Tea Party favorite who is a doer and has managed to get herself elected to the Senate with a campaign that relied on a novel concept... telling the truth. That is an accomplishment that seems amazing to us. It is pretty easy to sit on the sidelines and make snide remarks. In our opinion it would be more productive to lampoon up-and-comers on the other side of the aisle. We would prefer to encourage the people we know share our values and grew up in similar circumstances. But that is just us.
Not true, a copy of the speech is distributed prior to him giving it. But that wasn't my point regarding her "speech".
I agree with you on her accomplishments. In fact, I like her, and wish more people like her were in Washington DC. I wasn't making snide comments, I was making constructive criticism to whoever wrote her "speech". It was a wasted opportunity to start the process of winning the hearts and minds of voters that aren't voting for conservative candidates. Seriously, bread bags on her only pair of shoes?
