Say "P85D" to Tesla owners and fans, and you will see the drooling and twitching and heavy breathing and lustful stares--and more drooling--that Tesla's fastest, highest-performance electric car brings.
The same happens with the word "Hellcat" for fans of high-powered Hemi V-8 performance.
Now, courtesy of two owners--each convinced that their car is the fastest, baddest beast on the road--we know what happens when the two cars face off on the drag strip.
Two days ago at Palm Beach International Raceway, a Tesla Model S P85D and a 2015 Dodge Challenger Hellcat competed in the traditional quarter-mile drag race.
Hint: It's no contest. At all. And the quieter car wins decisively.
...
And, now, can we please stop with the "wimpy electric golf car" stuff?

“Would you spend $7,000 more for a Mustang GT over the Eco-boost? Purists will.”
But since 2011 the GT has had over 400 hp. Personally, I am hoping to get the GT350.
Well if you only want to do a drag race with it... there are a lot of advantages to electric. Way to go Tesla.
If you want to flaunt it on the highway, the gas beast wins the practicality prize.
Do they get an extension cord to a power pole with that?
I wish I had both!
Now I'm sure Dodge didn't send a Hellcat out that had some plug wires missing but your reasoning, "because the video was released by Dodge," needs a little more proof as to whether they switched to nitromethane or something.
If you have it, (proof), I'd be happy to check it out.
You can make your point without the language.
Thanks, I should have realized it......
Thanks for responding but you failed to answer my question. I'll ask it again: How much tax payer funded monies has Tesla received from the Feds?
Youre not exactly known as a conservative around here.
Oh really???? According to who? YOU?.......LOL!
“Motor Trend turned an 11.7 with their Hellcat on street tires, “
Motor Trend test of 2013 GT500 turned 11.6.
“only difference between their result and the NHRA certified result”
Not exactly what they said, especially considering they never got their hands on the Dodge car.
“needs a little more proof as to whether they switched to nitromethane or something.”
Not saying they did anything like that. Just that you can prep a street car for the strip and get better times. A little tuning here and there, a few suspension adjustments,”
I am not trying to run down the Hellcat, it is a beast. But there are a lot of beasts on the road today.
“627 hp? Insane!”
That is Shelby’s ‘modified’ GT.
The GT350 numbers are not released yet. Rumor is 550 hp from a N/A 5.2 flat plane crank engine with a 8200 rpm redline.
I’ve never tried it on the strip, but I’m pretty sure my 5.0 liter F150 will beat that. There’s something not right here...
This is exactly what they said, (copy/paste):
What about the 11.2-second quarter-mile time that Dodge has been trumpeting to the world? Well, half a second (11.7 seconds versus 11.2) is the difference between a prepped VHT surface and the street. All Motor Trend testing is done on asphalt, while Dodge got its big number on the strip.
So yeah, I paraphrased, but I did not misrepresent what they said.
“Well, half a second (11.7 seconds versus 11.2) is the difference between a prepped VHT surface and the street.”
Uh, that is one dude guessing at what the difference is.
“Motor Trend”
Interesting statement below from the writer. Under M/T test conditions the 2013 GT500 was .1 second faster but he says:
“A retired and wheeled Hellcat would probably smack that Shelby around pretty good, too.”
Me too but it would have minimized the inept driver obviously not knowing how to start. Besides a little traction control would have offset the 4WD advantage off the start and maybe it would have been entertaining on the top end.
Anyway, I’ll be breathing dirt by the time electrics become truly successful so my little ole pea pickin heart will have to root for gas power.
I don’t see how 5000 lb car is going to beat a 4000 lb car of equal HP, unless one denies it somewhat equal traction. I notice that putting on a set of slicks was akin to cheating to you in one of your posts.
Shelby recently sent an independent test driver down to Brandenton Motorsports Park in Brandenton, Florida to put the 2013 Shelby GT500 Super Snake to the test at the drag strip. Amazingly, the driver was able to make a quarter-mile run in 10.66 seconds, hitting 137 miles-per-hour.
Even more impressive? He did it all with pump gas and street tires.

Ever heard of Torque?
“I notice that putting on a set of slicks was akin to cheating to you in one of your posts.”
Not cheating. Just have to compare apples to apples.
You don’t see that awd is superior to rwd in delivering power?
