Statement by the President on ISIL
http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2014/09/10/statement-president-isil-1

My fellow Americans, tonight I want to speak to you about what the United States will do with our friends and allies to degrade and ultimately destroy the terrorist group known as ISIL.

As Commander-in-Chief, my highest priority is the security of the American people. Over the last several years, we have consistently taken the fight to terrorists who threaten our country. We took out Osama bin Laden and much of al Qaeda’s leadership in Afghanistan and Pakistan. We’ve targeted al Qaeda’s affiliate in Yemen...

...This strategy of taking out terrorists who threaten us, while supporting partners on the front lines, is one that we have successfully pursued in Yemen and Somalia for years. And it is consistent with the approach I outlined earlier this year: to use force against anyone who threatens America’s core interests, but to mobilize partners wherever possible to address broader challenges to international order....

I wonder if Saudi Arabia has noticed they are becoming surrounded?

They've noticed, they are building a 600 mile long fence to keep these critters out. I'm thinking it is too little too late. What's the over/under on when "Saudi Arabia" gets a name change?

The Saudis are flooding the market with cheap oil, making in all the money they can, and not saving their only asset for the future. Connect the dots...the Saudi elite won't be anywhere near that peninsula when it all comes tumbling down. They're pocketing all the money they can, and when the glut causes producers to fail worldwide, they'll buy into those bankrupt resources. And they'll keep funding religious wars globally.

Just a hypotheses. But it makes sense.

Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of Wahabbis.

Yemen is very tribal in their society. I used to live there a couple decades ago.

Yes, but if we can encourage them to split and fight each other, the better for us.

To further complicate things, many of the al-Ahmars are members of the Islah Party. The al-Ahmar Godfather, Sheikh Abdullah al-Ahmar, was the head of the Islah Party. Now, Islah are commonly known in Yemen to be the ‘Muslim Brotherhood’ party.

This is why it's beyond lunacy for the US to be choosing which Muslim rebels to support.

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/jan/20/houthi-rebels-seize-yemen-presidential-palace

Shia Houthi rebels are shelling the home of Yemen’s president in the capital, Sana’a, after seizing the presidential palace, according to the country’s information minister.

The minister, Nadia al-Sakkaf, posted on her Twitter account on Tuesday that President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi’s home has come under “heavy shelling since 3:00 PM by armed forces positioned over rooftops facing his house”.

Hadi is believed to be inside the house, which is in another part of the city to the presidential palace.

(snip)

Colonel Saleh al-Jamalani, the commander of the Presidential Protection Force that guards the embattled president, has described the events as “coup”. He told the Associated Press that the rebels who entered the presidential palace were aided by insiders and were looting arms depots in the palace grounds.

These rebels have any political or (ahem) religious affiliations?

>>Nope - just a random bunch of 'lone wolves'... probably Tea Party members... with deep tans.

CNN will probably create a news graphic with the rebel flag to cover this braking news....

AKA, 0b0z0’s success model!

If Shia terrorists, backed by Iran, take over a Sunni Arab country, it’s considered success that hastens 0b0z0’s capitulation to the mullahs bomb.

How do the Saudis feel about this? 0b0z0 must be getting a jug-earful from the Saudis, something we will never hear about.

There is good reason to believe damaging Al Qaeda in Yemen helped give power to Houthi.

Hasn’t BO/VJ named Yemen more or less an ally? Aren’t you supposed to rush in and assist your ally when they get hit by a coup?
