HERSHEY, PA. Senate GOP leaders are using their joint retreat with the House to warn conservatives that theyre not going to be able to reverse President Obamas executive orders on immigration.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) told House lawmakers that he needs at least six Democrats to pass legislation approved by the House that funds the Homeland Security Department and repeals Obamas actions deferring deportation for millions of illegal immigrants.
He told House Republicans not to expect miracles, since it would take 60 Senate votes to send the House bill to Obamas desk, and McConnell only has 54 Republican votes. You look at the hand youre dealt. There are not 60 Republicans, so you have to convince six Democrats to move with them, said one border-state Republican congressman. Pigs will fly out of my rear end before that happens.
Its also far from clear that all 54 Republican senators would support the House bill, which would also undo Obamas 2012 order that gives legal status to certain people who entered the U.S. illegally as children.
Twenty-six House Republicans voted against that portion of the bill on Wednesday.
Sen. John Cornyn (Texas), the No. 2 Senate Republican, told reporters on Thursday that the bill could be changed by amendment in the Senate.
Cornyns comments also sent the signal that GOP conservatives in the House need to lower their expectations.
Without a deal, the Homeland Security Department could shutdown after Feb. 27, when its existing funding runs out.
Thats something Republicans in both chambers want to avoid, and the messages from Cornyn and McConnell are sinking in, the border-state congressman said.

a hole.
Old turkeyneck won’t fail to disappoint.
Any surprise here? On election Day I hoped we won the Senate but that this chinless a=hole lost. Now here we are.
Right out the gate McConnell parrots Sharpton; Surrender We Much!
The hand we’re dealt.
Thanks for that, Mitch.
what a ball-less wonder.

So Mitch, why don’t you just change the Senate voting rules to simple majority like Dingy Harry did for appointments?
Why not Mitch? Not enough testosterone in the Senate? Or, America is American enough anymore to stop an invasion of our country by Mexico and Central America? Which is it? Maybe you and Boehner should take James Taylor down along the border and sing “You’ve Got A Friend” to the invaders as they crash what used to be the American border back when America was still the greatest nation on Earth.
They could pass an actual immigration bill that would supersede Obama’s amnesty.
What they could do, is provided a set of detailed procedure for immigrants to legalize their status. They could make them fill out long forms listing their income for each year they were living in the US, and reconciling it to the tax they paid. Then they would have to prove they can speak English, have not violated any laws or been arrested, whether they paid sales tax on anything they ordered over the internet, etc, etc. Yes, it’s a ‘path to citizenship’, but with so many gotchas hardly anyone would quality. The GOP answer to the ACA.
Dear GOP,
We have heard all of the excuses:
If we only had the House.
If we only had the Senate.
If we only had 60 senators.
If we only had 67 senators
If we only had the White House.
Enough of the excuses. Do something. Fight!
Budget funding bills do not require a 60 vote majority.
I would call them the “Reubican’t” Party, but really, they are just the Moderate Wing of the Uniparty.
No Mitch McConnell, you Richard Head...We don’t expect a miracle on immigration, what we do expect is that you “...support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”
That is what we expect!!!
How supporting and defending America for change and the people who F’n pay your salary!
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.
We'll see how many actually stand up to "support and defend" the Constitution.
